I don't see it happening for a number of reasons, but it still makes me slightly uneasy thinking back to Chizik and Boom. I understand that's different than taking over the head coaching job, but the speculation makes my stomach jump just a little.

What say you, fellow barners?

Less than 30%. There are a lot of responsibilities of being the UT coach he would hate. It would take a few years to rebuild while he has a team tailored made for his success for at least one more year combined with good recruits for the year after. His daughters and wife love Auburn and the daughters are students

Depends how much Gus is worth to UT. If they offer >7m, may start to be worried. I don't see Gus leaving for 5-6 especially when AU can come close to matching.

I don't see Gus getting offered 7m without proof he can sustain but shite, Aggie coach got 5 so who knows.

1% - but I doubt he would even listen if called... the Texas job requires a lot of booster meetings, rubbing elbows, etc... Malzahn hates that type stuff... he LOVES football. He is singularly focused and will only be focused on the BCSNC game.

When the SI article came out, he worked with JJ for less than 2 hours and a deal was done. No waiting weeks (See Saban).

If JJ's story was true, then -100%. If he story was not true, then 2.36578033%

So if JJ's story is true, there's a 100% chance Gus leaves

ETA: nevermind. I thought the "-" was just a dash...not a negative

He would be foolish not to listen, and if called, he would absolutely entertain the job. Auburn gave Gus a shot at the big stage twice and I think that means a lot to him. Furthermore, history shows that economic benefit from his job hasn't been a motivating factor in what he wants to do - He took a pay cut to go to Arkansas State afterall.

So we'll see. I'm not sure we know the man enough to understand fully what his ambitions are in football just yet.

I think we need to be grateful that Mack did get the axe this year. If he had lingered for another year, I'd feel wayyyy worse about it assuming Malzahn puts another decent season together in 2014.

As for now, I'm banking on the fact that they want someone that has a a longer HC track record. I think if I'm Texas I see Malzahn as something of a gamble no matter how great he's been this year and as an OC.

Plus, we have the complicating factor of the BCS NCG which I just don't see Gus being able to make a decision ahead of. You have to hope that Texas wants to get their guy ASAP.

I'm just thankful for the situation being what it is as described above. Texas is one of only 3-4 vacancies that you can't be naive enough to say Auburn wouldn't be a stepping stone.

Don't think Texas will be willing to outbid us. If money is the same, I don't see him leaving.

1%. I never believe anything is certain in cfb but Gus has Auburn in the NC game and will be one of the favorites next year too. Especially if we win.

I don't see Gus giving up a real shot at a NC next year at a school he knows well and has his players here and coming in, for a school that he doesn't know how things are ran or who he has to put up with and will have to rebuild for a shot down the road.

Plus there is no guarantee that all his staff would follow him from Auburn and the SEC if he wanted to keep them.

I just cant see Texas hiring Gus with only two years of head coaching experience. Its a gamble at this point. He does not have a history to show that he can sustain a succesful program yet. However, what he has done this year is remarkable. There is no doubt about it that Gus can coach and make an offense work due to the strengths of each player. Its incredible what he can do. All we can go on right now is Gus's word that he loves AU and doesnt want to leave. We will see. I dont like to see his name being brought up.

Seriously, 5%....AND THAT'S BEING GENEROUS.

UT is an amazing job. You can win multiple titles there...oh wait.

AU playing for 2nd title in 4 years. Gus asked for no more than fair market value for his new contract. If he wanted a huge payday he'd have waited until he had the opportunity to talk to Texas, and he didn't. He knew that job was coming open and was furious at the mere mention of his name being linked to it.

The man is a bit of an odd character, and isn't a Tommy Tuberville like guy that loves the mic and cameras all around. He enjoys football, family and solitude and won't get any of that in Austin, and gets all of it he wants in Auburn. He's set, folks.

This. Plus I think in order for Gus to be able to land Garner and Craig, there had to be some understanding that he wasn't going to jump ship if something came up after one year on the plains.

I'm actually pretty worried about UT. I'm hoping that they aren't sold on the GusBus enough to offer him big money. I know we could pony up a lot of money, but not 7 mil/year.
