Exactly. It's amazing how everyone wants to give him credit for what he did to build up the Baylor program but then on the other hand downplay the recent fall

I'd be okay with a "recent fall" from top 5 to #16

I meant more towards the whole fallout with the investigation. They will be decent this season but lost basically their whole recruiting class for this upcoming season

As far as Petrino is concerned, there was no question whether he was guilty or innocent.

What was his buyout in 2013 at UL? Or was that his first year at WKU?

Everyone deserves a second chance....or at least that is what the Bible teaches us. Maybe you're not a Christian, i don't know. But i think Briles needs Auburn as much as Auburn needs him.
Dios Mio. I get that there's some vaguely relevant stuff in red letters about that, but Jesus and Paul also talk about needing to acknowledge each others' weaknesses and not let people repeatedly put themselves in a position to sin.

So let's keep theology out of this

I don't think anyone is downplaying the recent fall, but when new information comes out that really shows how little at fault he probably was, and how much information he wasn't really privy to, it rightfully should temper your opinion of him from that event.

That said, as HC of the program, you will always shoulder responsibility
Except when Jonathan Taylor beats up his girlfriend after being kicked out of Georgia for doing the same thing.

When that happens, you get a contract extension and a raise.

I just don't care that Petrino's personal life is a train wreck as the guy can coach football and his kids stay out of trouble.

This doesn't even come close to the hiring of Briles, who put the female population of Baylor at risk.

And that would signal an end of my support for AU football.

People like you are the reason we didn't get Bobby Petrino in 2013.

I thought that was shite when it happened & they got a ton of shite for it. Then he ended up getting kicked off the team anyway. I would have been furious if AU had done the same thing

I get I am fighting a losing battle here because most just see the wins & can find ways to reason their way around what happened at Baylor. Maybe it eventually comes out that Briles did absolutely nothing wrong and somehow all of this that happened was unrelated to his leadership as head coach. But as of now there is enough out there to know at the least he had a poor understanding of the type of culture he had helped build. Again I don't usually play the high horse thing but I have a serious problem with how quickly fanbases can defend or logic their way around a guys that are apart of some pretty messed up situations all because they won.

If Art Briles is hired in any capacity at AU then I won't have anything to do with Auburn football for as long as he is here. I know that won't mean shite in the long run but it's the truth of the matter. Just like I obviously won't be able to convince you one way, you won't be able to convince me the other

Hopefully we don't even need to have this discussion because Gus gets it figured out and we win out. Here's to that dream

Are you Briles? Because I am pretty sure that's the only person I have called shitty in this thread

Like I said, I hope this isn't even a concern by the end of the year

Maybe this is all a ploy so when we do hire Petrino, everyone (including the media) is relieved it's not Briles and there's no blowback.

Truthfully, I am tired of traveling hours to sit in JH and witness loss after loss due to idiotic coaching mistakes. Watching Auburn football is no longer fun for me. I'm becoming numb to the game altogether. It fricking sucks

I understand the feeling. Saturday's loss ranks up there for one of the most depressing. It's been frustrating watching a team fully capable of being 3-0 right now squander it to poor coaching and sit at 1-2. Chances are high we will need a change of some sort come the end of the year unless things turn around quickly. Might posibarner tank is approaching empty
