I don't think Gus could have made a better hire. He's got a pupil that is 100% on board with what Gus is wanting to do. Any other hire, including Morris, has the potential for tension.

The guy we almost hired on Monday is 37 years old and has spent the last 7 years on Saban's staff... Lashlee is 29 with 2 years at lower levels as an OC.

I don't think age is that big of a deal... hopefully it works out similar to Smart under Saban.

I agree with this, as soon as I heard Gus was the head coach I looked up the guys name that was the OC at samford and found out that Gus had taken him to Ark State with him. I knew he was Gus' protege and immediately wanted him to be the Auburn OC. I think it's a perfect fit.

Malzahn's offense definitely seems to work better with Lashlee around (he left for Samford after 2010)... that's probably got to do more with Chizik's slowing down of the HUNH and Cam leaving, but hey...

His youth may even help in recruiting, make it easier for the kids to relate to him.

All of this is just speculation though. The only facts we have on this matter is Lashlee, as an OC under Gus, racked up a lot of yards and points at ASU.

Lashlee is Gus's bitch. Had him as a HS QB and as a GA etc, he knows EXACTLY how to run Gus's offense because Gus taught him how. This makes sense, but I am not sure they can call him a true offensive coordinator.

he was the OC at Samford before going with Gus to Arky state...pretty sure that's a true offensive coordinator?

I have a feeling that the Arkansas State offensive staff will be at Auburn next year. JB Grimes will be coaching the line, Drinkwitz at running backs and Woods at receivers. Strangely, all of the offensive staff sans Grimes have Auburn ties in some fashion.
