But the coaches need autonomy no meddling and all that jazz.

We knew it was coming but this hire isn't good.

It's better than clemson's oc coming in only to leave one year later. This is the benefit of having a HC that coaches, will have some stability instead of constant revolving door a la Chizzzz

Same situation bama has with Saban on D

Malzahn will call the games like Chip Kelly.. Lashee will be his eye in the sky.. That's JMO.. Who is he going to hire? At the end of the day, it will always be Malzahn's offense.

Why? It's not like he can hire some random OC that has a top offense. Malzahn is going to run what he wants and Lashlee has a good grasp of that. The only other person I could think of is Chad Morris.

Was he at AU from 09 to 11?

He was here as a grad assistant here in 2009-2010. OC at Samford in 2011, then OC at ASU 2012.

Gus had the headset on and was part of the playcalling and doing his usual thing in the 3 ASU games I watched this year, he'll be the OC in all but name.

And at anyone that thinks Lashlee we'll be doing the offensive assistant hiring in actuality without heavy Gus input.

This hire works for me.

Plus, Gus has wasted absolutely no time in hiring his Coordinators, which is the exact opposite of 2008.

Exactly. No one, he's only been coaching 3 years maybe. He doesn't know anyone besides Gus's contacts.

So. Hired a guy to be offensive coordinator who will not be coordinating the offense? I just don't like it. What sort of water will this kid actually carry amongst staff and players. I understand Gus will be running the show and so will everyone else who is supposed to be answering to this guy.

At least he's an auburn man, right?

Yeah, it's pretty nice. Not that the OC hire with Gus as HC really matters outside of recruiting maybe, but it's nice to have both out of the way already. Gus hires and fires like he coaches.

I'm sure it will be good. I'll go ahead and admit I'm jealous. This dude is pretty fricking lucky. Not much older than me.

I'm really curious who they will hire as a recruiting coordinator. I dont want the whole damn staff from ASU over here but whatever.

The same water that Spurrier's OC at Florida during the 90s carried, the same water Petrino's brother carried at Arky when Petrino called the plays, the same water whoever the hell Oregon's OC carries. Same with Holgorsen at WVU. Most top offensive minds do their own playcalling as head coaches, it's pretty damn rare for it to be otherwise.

I'm not sure what the hell you are even smoking here, having a head coach be your OC is a great thing, and one of the best things about having Gus as head coach. We will never have any lack of continuity on offense as long as he's here, the system and playcalling will remain mostly the same regardless of what OC we have. No more having our team take steps back every time we make a new hire like we did with Tubs.

This is similar to the aTm OC, doesn't Sumlin call his plays? That guys is around 32 or so and has everyone slobbering on his knob.

That's exactly what Muschamp and Smart were for Saban when he hired them, and they grew into solid DCs (or so it seems on Smart anyway). Lashlee can do the same thing.
