What has happened to Wallace? I know he is not the starter but why is Frazier apparently the back up now?

Frazier isn't the back up, he runs a wildcat package.

As for why, he has dirt on Gus. Only explanation.

Don't understand Frazier in the wildcat either. At least with Wallace at wildcat QB, there is a threat of a pass.

Because Frazier can run the play I talk about here. Which effectively is what the wildcat is made to do

That was why JJ started all those games in 2011 for LSU...

Shows why CGM was grading papers 8 years ago. Not poo pooing him, but that decision to run wildcat with KF is very questionable. Is he trying to "show" that he belongs?

Kiehl Frazier is the only player we have that can run the inverted veer properly and pose something of a passing threat.

Kiehl Frazier has experience running the wildcat successfully his freshman year

Literally no one seems to understand what the wildcat truly is about. Everyone seems to think "Oh let's just throw some guy who can run it in and run a power"

The wildcat is an extremely effective play that when coupled with a HUNH, can really harm defenses and screw them up.

While I'm not a fan of inserting a QB specifically to run the wildcat, as GenesChin is vehemently pointing out, he is the only QB that is big enough to run the play as it is intended.

Nick is too small to be a legitimate threat. They will almost always target the back to prevent the big gain and let Nick keep it for a short gain.

Then why does it not work for AU.

Ran it twice (that I remember Sat). One was a 2 yard loss. The other was a 7 yard gain that put the ball on LSU's 2 yard line.

I'm banging my head too. That was a legitimate response though. Have not worn a helmet since 1993.

Looking forward to adding to the conversation about ball.

Here is a great read on why you need a passing threat out of the wildcat.

If you add a passing threat into the wildcat, the play is damn near impossible to defend. Problem is you need a powerful player to play the Wildcat QB and we simply do not have anyone with throwing ability bigger than 200 pounds not named Kiehl Frazier.

Jeremy Johnson will be scary as wildcat once he adds some weight

The worst fricking play call I've ever seen. I'm embarrassed everytime it's called.

You are being an idiot.

Here is my shitty drawup and explanations of the potential awesomeness that is the wildcat when run with proper personnel that can adequately complete these tasks. Also, I didn't grab the formation we typically run the wildcat out of so frick me. I drew it up based on what I had though

1 (black route)- Inverted Veer which options Right End

Option 1- Right end plays QB, hand off on a Jet/Buck Sweep, good WR blocking = positive gain

Option 2- Right end plays Jet/Buck Sweep, QB keeps it through the B gap for a QB power and has good potential cutback lane

2- (Green route) - Traditional Read option of backside Left End
(RB typically runs inside power but could run sweep and blocking not shown but explained)

Option 1: Left tackle leaves left D End unblocked who crashes on RB, QB keeps it for a QB sweep outside. Left tackle seals LB, good WR blocking on CB results in positive gain

Option 2: Left End plays the QB, read hands it off to the RB who has a huge cutback lane from DE playing QB.

3- (Green Route)- QB read option counter
(keeps defenses honest on veer)

Essentially the same as choice 2 except the QB runs a counter instead of an oustide sweep. The HBack and I believe right guard pulls. On this play while the LT blocks down on the DT

4- Wildcat read option pass

My favorite variation that you almost never see. The QB runs a read option and then the WR blocks the CB. If the WR misses the block he turns around pretty much wide open. This allows the QB either to make a read on the safety. If the safety and LBs play run, WR has easy first down. If they play pass, the QB has to make the CB miss in space or truck him which a 225 LB + player should be able to do

There also is additional variations of passes that can be thrown from this formation.

So when exactly is this wonder play going to "screw" some defense? So far they are not having much of a problem with 2nd and long

The wildcat is a play that you have to run continuously to see effective results. It is like the triple option. You grind out 3-4 yard gains with a few losses to open up explosive plays later on.

You run the inverted veer with the QB 3 times where the QB keeps it and next thing you know, the CB and LB are cheating inside and Corey Grant runs around them outside. That is where OMac got 10 yards per carry in 2010

No. You sound like a homer. It's a retard play that barely gets any yards. The opposing fan base laughs and rightfully so.'

The wildcat is essentially our version of the readoption that has been so effective in the NFL by Kaepernick, Russell Wilson and RG3

The only wrinkle that makes it different is that we bring in a guy to play QB with size that can take a beating and we move our non play side OT to the other side which creates huge problems for a defense on the playside

Reasons why it is not working:

1- We don't have the personnel to effectively run it with the passing threat which is necessary (a run only wildcat was creative till DCoordinators found that blitzing both boundary and field side effectively fricks it) \

2- We don't run it enough to effectively utilize the counters and options that create the big plays

3- It actually is averaging a respectable amount of yards.

Sorry, I think it is just a "fad" play. It worked for a little while until defenses figured it out, then it fizzled. To work now, the QB has to be able to pass out of it and Frazier is too horrible a passer to take the risk.
