I would agree but the man has proven he cannot keep his hands out of the cookie jar. Who sits on a lead from the second quarter on and has no sense to realize it was stupid? Gus.

I had hoped he would settle in to being a CEO with taking control on occasion but he doesn't have the mindset for big time college ball. You don't sit in a lead in BR against one of your biggest rivals who has beaten you for a couple of decades inbgheir house.

That tells me plenty he has no awareness of what to do. He has done it for years and cost the team several big games especially the NC. Sorry but he isn't going to change.

Ultimately I agree with this Rocky. Maybe I just wanted to hear it stated in a way other than "Fire Jay", "Frick Gus", and "we're going 6-6."

I still think we can win our next 3 games, and that is what I will be rooting/hoping for. But if that does happen, we might just set our self up for another year of Gus.

Those stats are pretty ridiculous. But is it a coincidence that every SEC coach is fired or in the hot seat, and every other coach us "thriving." How would those teams do in the SEC west? How would these other coaches perform outside the SEC?

This team is a 10-11 win team. Let's see what Gus does with them. I am against looking for a new HC with Jay still in as AD. There are plenty of reasons that have nothing to do with football for him to be fired.

I hung in there with Gus because I think it's dumb to keep firing and the man recruits well or is smart enough to hire those who can. However, look at some of the players showing frustration in interviews. That's no bueno.

I mean honestly, he finishes out the season. I think a new AD is inevitable. And then, you would think the AD would be in charge of determining the HC status.

I really hoped Gus would grow into the job, but it seems he is incapable of it.

Still hope we win the rest of our games. But it looks very grim.

Why is Gus Malzahn making his case on this board? Shouldn't he be studying film and improving his game plans?

Eh, I can appreciate where you're coming from. I think a lot of fans are mad because we really really really wanted Gus to work out. But the way in which he hasn't worked out and the way he wen't from the 2013 coach that seemed to just have massive play calling balls to "run 17 straight on first down to protect the 9 point lead at the half" is so strange and confusing that it almost amounts to betrayal and I think a lot of us are enraged because we can't figure out WHY or HOW that change in him happened.

That downward trend since 2013 has been going on for so long now, and given the resources he had coming into this season, the fact that it's continuing even into the middle of 2017 is what has caused all of us to give up and write him off.

I completely expect to get a lot of downvotes, but I think everyone is overreacting just a little bit.

It has become a trend. Gus struggles to beat teams with equal/greater talent. I was hoping that would change. It hasn't. He has all of the talent he needs this season. Same crap, different year.

I think the thing that irks me the most is how Auburn fans that support Gus talk like 8-5 is an acceptable record

Mediocrity and underachievement should never be viewed as acceptable here

The other thing is Gus himself and how he literally lies. Every gotdamn interview is lie after lie. I mean I get the injury thing and not wanting to tip your hand to the other team. However like today when Crepea laid into him about play calling and Gus just gives some rambling answer about how Chip called all the plays and the offense will always have Gus imprint on it. I mean that is as close to Bill Clinton saying what does is mean, that I have heard ever. Same thing with him saying he was going to get more running backs involved. Hell we ran Pettway out half crippled and killed 2 drives. Then we run Barrett in to catch a swing pass that everyone in the stadium knew he was getting the ball. I would love to see a psychiatric evaluation of ole Gus. I bet people would be shocked.

As I said in another thread...

...so it begins. The great posibarnering of this week.

Emotions have cooled down. You’ve gone back to work. Drank a glass of lemonade and had sex with your wife. Had a few hot meals. Your belly is full and you’re getting a full 8 hours of sleep at night.

Maybe it’s not so bad. Maybe it was a bad half. I mean, it’s not every game that we’ve blown it in the 2nd half. Yeah, it’s happened in every game against our main rivals and in every game played on a national stage. But maybe that’s bad luck.

We might be winning only 8 games a year, but we’re kinda close to winning a lot more. I mean, those 1st half performances are pretty damn good...sometimes.

Stidham’s still green and young. KJ can’t do it all by himself. Need some receivers to step up. Maybe they will against Georgia.

It’s not so bad.

It’s not so bad.

Agreed. I think the only reason this had started to become "acceptable" is because I would accept almost anything it if we were playing for a national championship every 3-4 years.

I guess my argument would make more sense if we were going 10-2 or 9-3 every season and Alabama was the only thing in our way, but that just hasn't been the case.

You need to go take a look at Jacobs body of work since he has been at Auburn. AU has a losing record in ALL SPORTS against SEC competition over the last 10 years. TEN MOTHER FREAKING YEARS. We have a list of failed and paid off coaches who were bad hires, and various scandals with the NCAA and now FBI. The one constant is Jay Motherfricking Jacobs. I am seeing very little return on investment by the donors and Alumni who contribute to AU. Without the miracle that was Cam Newton, and 2013, we'd be Mississippi State. We need a new Athletic department leader. Then we probably need a new football coach, because I think Gus has run out of ideas. Jacobs does NOT need to be involved in any more coaching hires at Auburn. Ever.

Also, this thread has yet to touch on

It’s over unless he wins 9 games. Fool me once, OK. But fool me 5 times. He has to win out till Bama. It is that simple.
