We were in field goal range with like 1:30 left and a first down. nick Marshall was trying to audible the play. Reese hiked the ball into his own leg and starts blocking. NO ONE else on the AU side was ready. It's actually amusing to watch. The captain of the OL just hikes the ball out of no where and starts playing football when no one else expects it.

An explanation. Did he hear NM say something that made him think it was go time? Do the have a quick snap signal that he thought was on?

the early snap could have been covered over had it not hit his leg and stopped at the line. If the ball goes in the backfield so we could recover it easier then.

I'm guessing:
He just got nerves and snapped it, realizing as he did it was a mistake, tried to stop it but it was too late (hence it being off his own leg), and thus started blocking on the off chance that Nick had gotten the snap. I mean even if it's a fumble its probably best that he block the guy right over it so someone in better position to recover it would.

THE BALL DID NOT HIT REESE'S LEG!!! Stop saying that! Ball was a clean snap that hit Marshall's leg and bounced back up toward the line under Reese and was recovered by A&M. Reese was engaged w the D lineman in front of him.
He was reserved and clearly upset in the press conf. Said he would not get into details about what happened. That tells me he thought he heard Nick say something that was a tell to snap the ball - and was feeling like he did what he was supposed to do by snapping the ball. But he kept his mouth shut and just said "bad communication and I feel bad and disappointed by the play." Look at his face. Dude needed a hug.

Thank you. That's what I was asking about. Not trying to pile on him. Genuinely curious as to what happened. This was just so uncharacteristic, that I was sure there was an explanation.
