It's obviously what the students/players want. No one is required to participant in anything that they don't want to participate in.
This is my take too. Give players the choice to participate or not. If they are 'tricking' players into attending these 'spiritual revivals', then they need to begin to make it clear what the nature of the meeting will be before hand.

Nah, you're right. It was a dick thing to say.
Your post wasn't that bad you just caught the brunt of my frustration on the issue. It gets me fired up when these FFRF, ACLU etc... loser organization try to insert themselves where they aren't wanted or needed and act like major douches.

At least they're going after more than just Auburn...or maybe that's not a good thing. Or maybe just let 'em sue...if there's anyone who's got more money than God (pardon the pun), it's the football powerhouses of the SEC!
And FYI, the link is from the AJC; I don't normally surf the Dawg Nation.

No problem
And I don't agree with the lawsuit. FFR is a fringe organization. I just gave my personal example of some of the influence those groups can have. My coach certainly didn't seem like much of a holy roller anyway.. This wasn't football at Auburn and it was long before Brother Chette. Best I can tell he's had nothing but a good influence on the football players at Auburn.

According to that article:
I would assume they sent these same letter to AU players. The last thing we need is a damn distraction before the season. Hopefully, the school can do whatever is necessary to put this issue to rest.
Now with that said,
AU and UGA? Bama plays both. Draw your own conclusions...

The foundation said that it also sent a letter to Tech players, which included the message that “your school has allowed coaches to have improper and unconstitutional influence over players’ protected and personal decisions related to religion.”

I am all for separation of church and state. I cringed when student organizations I was a part of led prayers before meetings.
frick these people for pulling this bullshite. Chette is a spiritual advisor more so than a Christian advisor. Similar to chaplains in the army not catering exclusively to their denominations
It is like Bernie Sanders applauding and asking for the pope to speak at congress despite Sanders being Jewish. It is guidance based on fundamental principles that aren't exclusive to religion or faith

quote:Exactly, and this happens at all major universities.
Give players the choice to participate or not.
Ryan Harris, a Muslim since he was 14, played football at Notre Dame. ND has a chaplain and there are something like 300 masses held each week on the campus. Harris said he would attend the pre-game Mass, and would participate to the level he was comfortable, but he was never forced to do so.

Going after high schools now.
MADISON, AL (WAFF) - The Madison City School district is facing demands from the Freedom From Religion Foundation after the FFRF says they received complaints about endorsement of religion by the district.
A letter was sent to Madison City Schools Superintendent Dee Fowler in July by the FFRF demanding that Fowler and the district begin an immediate investigation.
The FFRF says they were contacted separately by a Madison City Schools student and an unrelated parent about three different issues.
First, the FFRF alleges that April Marsh, the head volleyball coach at Bob Jones High School, requires volleyball players to participate in a "prayer circle before and after every game or practice."
A separate complainant alleged that a pastor leads pregame prayer over the school loudspeaker and post-game prayer in the middle of the field at every Bob Jones football game.
Finally, the FFRF says they were told that a local Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader, Taylor Edge, is allowed access to Bob Jones students during physical education "practice blocks" during regular school hours. The FFRF says they were during the blocks, Edge carries a Bible, quotes scripture and questions students about their faith "while promoting Christianity."
