Anyone who follows GT knows they were devastated by injures and could never sustain drives.

All things considered, and I know it's not a very high bar, but I believe Roof is the best DC we've had other than Muschamp since Chiz left for Austin back in '04.
Just as in '15, our losses during his tenure were more on the offense than the defense. And his unit won a few games when Gustav's wasn't firing on all cylinders (MSU and Oregon in '10, SCarolina and UF in '11).
That said, I'd prefer someone like Allen or Diaz, with no previous ties to AU. We need some fresh blood.

Short memory for some here. I vividly remember the pain and anger I felt watching Auburns defense being savagely beaten in every facet of the defensive game when Roof was here. I kept asking myself how we as a team forgot what angles were, tackling, hitting, and staying in correct positions.

Didn't we encourage Roof to find a new job after the 2011 season so we could move on from his defense? Now we want him back???

Well I'm sure he hopes to stay. What he said this morning has zero impact on what he ends up doing. It was the only thing he could say.

Maybe the issue is that I don't see Jay Jacobs getting either fired this year, or being forced to resign. And as you said, Jay Jacobs wants to stay, so I think Jacobs has another year.
