We already do, don't we? Isn't what Travis Williams was doing before? Gus has hired a lot of former HS coaches and former players for off-the-field positions.

Travis Williams has certainly shown himself to be talented as a coach. I'm thinking more about Sarkisian at Bama. Even though he can't recruit, I'm sure having him on staff is an advantage in recruiting. I'm thinking more along the lines of big name college coaches in-between jobs or who need a bit of an image rehab.

true = mid-season

So did his position coach do his job? It's not as if he's a JUCo just coming in.

I thought that's what coaches are paid to do. They get the right guy, in the right package, at the right time. Why is Sean doing good now and not before? Not selecting a preseason QB's could be a likely choice as any. At a time when other teams were preparing their packages and determining which personnel to match him with, Auburn was still juggling three hopefuls. And not allowing adequately gel time is almost the norm.

Several years worth of data point to less than projected growth at this position. That's not saying, iron-clad without reservation, that RL isn't capable of develop quarterbacks. Oly that he's incapable to do so in the current environment... which is both OC coordinator and QB coach. Yes, he's just started play calling, but an OC spend major time elsewhere.

Which to me imply's asking Rhett, "which position would you prefer to do?".

Guys like that are going places to rehab their image working with a perennial NC contender and "Saban"

A former USC coach isn't going to be a Quality control analyst for a team coming off a 7-6 record

Outside of bama who is doing that? Not many former head coaches are gonna take an off the field position. Bama is just a different animal right now. Gus seems to favor rising high school coaches which shouldn't be a shock given his background

We have played for more Natty's than most recently. sabear can't hire everyone.

Why not coach at AU and show the world how much better you are?

Would that not be even better? Why yes, I believe it would.

If you're talking specifically about Sark he and Kiffin are both friends, and have that relationship. Plus that's a very unique situation, coaches like Sark don't end up in that position unless they really frick up.

Isn't that because he has a private QB coach?

Yeah so he'll have to sum that up for us.

Basically Malzahn is so paranoid he uses a bunch of weird formations to get defenses to think we're running when we're actually passing.

I hate this offense. Malzahn can't line up and play football against anyone without overthinking, overanalyzing, and overcomplicating everything.

True, but no other schools are in-state rivals with Bama.

Of course Biles' name has popped up in recent weeks, but there are always going to be coaches looking for jobs. Maybe not the same level as Sarkisian, but certainly with more name recognition than a high school coach.

Also, doesn't necessarily have to be former coaches. Think about Kevin Greene. Would be awesome to have him or other former Tigers and/or NFL players involved with the team.

You mean lose games? It's what cost us the game vs. Clemson

Read the article, it's laughable how far out we go just to call a pass play.

Rhett is doing a fantastic job with the O. I saw more imagination, in the first quarter of the State game, than I have seen in the last two years. It is very obvious to me.........Rhett has not been the problem.

Gus, for whatever reason, has blinders on when it comes to play calling. He has become more infatuated with pace than actually going to the fourth page of the play book.

I honestly think Gus got a case of coaching yips from the end of '14 (A&M butt fumble, UGA game & Iron Bowl) and last year's Jeremy Johnson collapse.

Hopefully, he'll be able to come back when he needs to with fresh ideas and more confidence.

Rhett has certainly called a couple of good games. I'll be interested to see how he does when faced with more difficult defenses.
