Why is this acceptable?

now subtract cupcakes and do it vs legit competition and ask again.

That would be pretty darn ugly.

This is sad and disheartening.

Gus should have been let go last year.

We fired Tuberville and won a natty after. We fired Chizik and returned to the natty.
Only stands to reason that firing Gus at least guarantees Auburn an appearance.

He drops another egg on offense and he should be dismissed immediately.

with the team we have right now if we had pulled an LSU and left his arse in the parking lot @ Clemson I wouldnt count us out.

We know man... we're watching the games too.

I've been saying that Gus' best coaching as a HC is ahead of him, but I think I may have been wrong.
He just can't stay out of the offense's way. He shouldn't have anything to do with play design OR play calling, moving forward.
He can still be the head guy. In charge of timeouts, telling O when to slow it down, give OC some input on things he's seeing, etc....but he should be letting the OC run his own show, moving forward.

Leave Gus in charge of timeouts will get you using the first 2 in the first 5 minutes of the game.

I have checked out on this team. It is hard being a Braves and AU football fan.

Losses to LSU, Bama, and Georgia. I would have fired him after the Georgia loss last year. No way to explain that one away.

He should have been let go after going 6-6 in 2015. Instead our dumbass AD gave him a raise and extension which tripled his buyout.

Should have been fired after the Clemson fiasco last year. College Football is big business and we're paying him too much money for the shite show results. We need to be more like Mizzou and cut ties instead of rewarding Malzahn for mediocre results. Hell the offense is less than mediocre. We're well outside the top 100 in total offense. Sad considering the talent on this roster

I keep remembering a Jay Tate blog post during the 2009 season. He remarked how Gustav's pregame ritual was walking aimlessly around the field during warm-ups, muttering to himself and biting his fingernails. Tate even posted a pic of it.
I remember thinking it was just a nervous habit. Now I wonder if he's not sitting in his office right now, fondling a handful of ball bearings, demanding to know who ate all the strawberries.

When I read all of the comments (mine included) that Gus can stay, is good-to-go as long as he doesn't touch the offense, I keep thinking to myself 'what the heck is he good for then?' Imagine if Bama fans were good with Saban as long as he didn't touch the defense. That is madness. What is Gus to do then?
If I was Gus after last season's fiasco, I would've been thinking to myself 'what the hell has gone wrong these last two years?' Belichick and Carroll both took an interest in 2013 Gus Bus offense and even cherry-picked a few plays. As a young struggling HC, I would've asked to meet with them in the offseason and asked for advice, lots of HCs do this, and I would've focused solely on JUCO/grad transfer dual-threat QBs. I think in Gus' head though his ego is even bigger than Belichick's/Carroll's.
