Warfarer, respectfully, this isn't the Glee Club at Snowflake High School. This is the Gridiron, where people make millions of dollars to win Championships. If they don't, they should be fired. Sony don't make money. CEO fired. Toyota. Fired. Disney. Fired. And so on.
Maybe we could pretend this was the good old days if the coaches were making good old days money. But they're not.
I'm not saying Auburn wants the same reputation as the Bammer fan base, but we need to have a reputation of toughness and doing the hard thing no matter what. This includes firing JJ and Gus. You do that, and over time, your coaches will rise to the expectation and so will your fan base.

Using that logic, our athletic department is one of the few that turns a profit. So From JJ down should be safe...

this is just flat out unrealistic expectations then. there is one champion a year and we have won two in 60 years including one of them with our current coach heavily involved and he coached us to another chance at it. The expectations are what the biggest problem is here, not the coaches. Was I pissed off at a couple of our performances this year? Absolutely, the UGA games burns my arse more than any other this year but the others were against very good teams.

Is this a troll?

if you don't think that plays a huge role in us not landing top tier assistants then you are just trying to fool yourself. We have a fanbase screaming to fire a coach that hasn't lost the players, has taken us to a national championship game and we just played in a Sugar Bowl and our fanbase still won't shut the frick up about firing him. Do you really not think that plays a huge role in not getting our first guys?
Same goes with recruiting. If I were a player leaving high school that really wanted to go play for Malzahn at Auburn, I would certainly look at other schools when he is top of the hot seat list every year because a lot of the fan base wants to fire him.

I could be completely wrong, and I hope I am, but this feels like the end of Tubs career here when he was just hiring people to fill an open position.

Back doored our way in as an 8 win team and losing to Georgia and Alabama the weeks prior
It's not even that. It's HOW we look playing the game. We have an offensive coach and we look dysfunctional on offense. We have once again placed all the eggs in a transfer.

Like the expectation of getting first downs? Such high standards we have.

To be fair, our quarterback did break his arm early in the game.
Most teams would shite the bed after that.
At this point, I just hope for the best next season. Defense will not be as good, but hopefully still better than four years ago. Offense? Well we have our good running backs and hopefully Prince shows up for the Oline. We have a lot of talented receivers who could step up this year. Hopefully Stidham is really good, but I also hope we have a viable back up --- something we were clearly missing.
And thank God for Carlson.
We get GA and Alabama at home. We play Texas A&M at their place, so that should be to our advantage.
I get everyone feeling like this is a shite season, but next year is make or break for Malzahn. I hope he gets it right.

Repeat after me, Gus isn't getting fired til at least after the 2018 season. It doesn't matter whether you like it or not, that is a fact.

Another 7-8 win season isn't going to cut it. The last three seasons have been unacceptable and the excuses have been the same with the promise always being that next year we'll be better.

Agreed.
This year is defining for him. I think he has to at least beat 2 out of 3 when it comes to Al, LSU and GA.
And honestly, next year's schedule does not provide any excuses for losing more than three games and keep any confidence that he is the right guy at the right time.
Which is a shame, because I really hoped he would work out. I hope he makes all of us who are doubting him look foolish --- like I did before 2013 season and do now.
I do not hate Gus and I want him to succeed, but if he cannot do it next year, well it is probably time for a new AD and then a new hire. I have read some posters saying AU is behind in facility upgrades--- college football is an arms race right now and you have to take every step possible to stay competitive.

If Auburn goes 8-4 next year and only beats one out of LSU, UGA, and bama he will be here another year. I would put money that he would be here at 7-5 and losing to all three.
We have a lame duck President, so at least summer of 2018 before JJ is gone. JJ won't hire the next football coach.
