Tiger Lodge is one of the sketchiest apartment complexes in all of Auburn. I stayed there one summer and holy crap. There is a mass influx of thugs from Tuskegee at all times near the pool and basketball court and that gate is nonfunctional half the time and easy as hell to get around when it is working.

I looked at the place a few years ago. Rent wasn't super cheap and it seemed like a nice place. It's too bad it went downhill so fast. What is Section 8? I've never heard of it.

The problem isn't the Complex itself per se, it's the huge parties with tons of people from Montgomery/Columbus etc. with no ties to the school showing up.
As is this case with most College Campuses. At the end of the day all students have to be weary of "locals" as they were called in my day. Some people resent the fact that you're in college bettering yourself while they feel trapped and excluded from what should be their town/city/whatever. This isn't true of everyone but it only takes one person to completely change your life
Also, don't think it's a race thing either as I'm sure many if you encountered some good'ol boy who thought you were putting on with your fancy ways. I really wish we would stop being so quick to use race as a justification for people doing shitty things. Some people are just horrible human beings. Period. Whether they were born black, white, brown, rich, or poor they still would have been a frick-up who ruined their life and likely many others.
This race blaming shite needs to stop

As Sandman said these aren't "locals" Even Opelika is pretty safe compared to places like Columbus/Montgomery
The issue is when the dregs of society come from Columbus/Montgomery

Saying Columbus/Montgomery isn't local to Auburn/Opelika is like saying Birmingham isn't local to Shelby/Tuscaloosa. Close access with lots of travel back and forth
Either way, fricked up people do fricked up things. No matter where they come from

Still not local bro. Just because it's within45 min driving doesn't make it local.

Columbus Georgia is about a 50 minute drive from Auburn. That is conservative if you are going downtown
Shelby County borders Birmingham and when no traffic from 280 is about 20 minutes downtown.
Tuscaloosa is about 35 minutes from McCalla.

And yet how many people live in Auburn but commute between Montgomery/Columbus for work? There's a lot of overlap there. It's not just random people coming to party.

Is there a chance that this place, the Tiger Lodge, has some of the cheapest rents in Auburn, therefore more student athletes are inclined to live there so they can spend their leftover rent money on other things? Is that even how the stipends work?

I don't think they even knew each other. I like to see that kinda thing.

So far it's been:
University Village
Tiger Lodge

Back to Tiger lodge
I'm sure they'll change the name again.
