Sure but you run a guy 5 times a drive vs a P5 defense you got it coming to you… unless he’s a Tebow or Newton.

What Umass did on the first drive was unsustainable.

He would have scored a few more points though. Once he lost his ability to run, their offense was easily stopped. Dude was running all over us and completing passes. He was injured pretty early.

Please tell me you can see that and not going to deny it to win an argument

Unsustainable? Pretty easy argument to make when he gets injured. Of course it’s part of the game when you run your QB.

He made our D look like shite. We won’t know if it was unsustainable because he got injured. Just like we won’t know if he could have scored 20-30 if he wasn’t, but we couldn’t defend it well while healthy.

Point is we don’t really know much about our defense yet.

It was sustainable if the QB knew how to take hits like Nick Marshall and not like Sean White.

Watch this Chex: this is what's not sustainable

Its was the first drive of the game, which as we all know from having Gus as our coach, tends to be well scripted and very hard to defend.

Once we had seen who their weapons were, what sets they were attacking with and how to line up our personnel to counter it, we shut them down. Sure, maybe they manufacture one drive late once the backups were in, but not with the first team.

Maybe, and I don’t disagree we could have adjusted but we still don’t know because the kid was injured the first drive. I can only hope this D is going to be alright. That UMass game with an injured QB gave us no answers to how good we are or can be. Cal should be a nice test for us on the road.

We shall see.

I’m happy with the win and saw some good things, but we have a long way to go.

Exactly…. Pocahontas was taking licks not avoiding them. It was stupid on his part and their coaches.

A better defense would’ve broke him in two.

That’s exactly why it was unsustainable… any p5 defense with athletes would have likely done that given their play calling…. Sooner or later.

You act like a running QB that passes has never happened before and they all get injured early.

Pretty interesting take.

By the way, even pocket passing QB’s get injured sooner or later. It’s tackle football.

Low, you’re confident our defense is really good then after yesterday?

I don’t see how you can’t be concerned about the defense after watching UMass gash them on simple cutbacks. There’s still way too much of our defenders running together and not containing the outside.

Going into the season I thought we’d be an average/ mediocre defense… nothing I saw yesterday has changed my mind.

Against great teams, the Redzone Robbie only works if he can pull up and hit a receiver in the end zone. If he can’t, they’ll load up and it’ll be tough sledding.

Which is exactly what you will see, and why you did not see it against UMass. A lot of stuff we have not seen yet and Freeze commented on that.

Regarding their QB and our defense.

Yes he gashed us, and yes it was a scripted first drive.

We then adjusted, and even if he was not injured, he may have been effective, but certainly less so than the first drive.

Whats a bit concerning is when you have to continually bring added pressure to make the stops, it also opened some huge gaps....which better teams would have capitalized on. You live by bringing DBs for pressure and you will get burned on some long passing plays until you stop bringing them.

The front seven has to, has to mind their gaps.

Did Justin Rogers play? If so he did not make a single tackle according the the Auburn site.

Zeke Walker looking pretty good though, nice to see for the young man....now call your brother we need some edges for 25 class (I know Faulk's little brother is already committed).
