Just committed to Kansas, wtf?

They had 5 commits today with 3 being 4*s. Not sure whats going on down there but I am sure it's on the up and up

All the 4*s are from LA and they recently hired a high school coach from there who apparently is doing work

KN has article up on 4* WR Matthew Hill. Enjoyed his junior day visit and spent some time with Malzahn. Travis Williams is his area recruiter but on visit got to know Burns better and likes that he's played in this offense before. Sounds like he hasn't really taken us too seriously because of QB struggles but now with Stidham on campus he is intrigued. Auburn, Florida State and South Carolina are recruiting him the hardest. No leader at this time

I am betting most of these WRs (Ross, Copeland, Hill, Williams) will need to see us actually have a successful passing game before jumping on board but sounds like signing Stidham has helped give impression that we are gonna improve to recruits

KN has 2 VIP articles up on 2018 targets. First is on 4* LB Adam Anderson. He is an UGA commit but made a surprising visit for junior day last weekend with his teammate NR DE Jamarcus Chatman. Apparently Tim Horton has been recruiting him hard so decided to visit and sounded like he was surprised at how much enjoyed the visit. Likes the fact we are willing to play freshman and enjoyed the atmosphere. Says he committed to UGA because they were first to really start recruiting him hard. Not sure if he will visit again but sounds like he might

Other one was on NR OT John Campbell. He is 6'5" 290 lbs and only 16 years old. Plays at Calvin Ashley's old high school and the two of them are apparently middle school friends. Ashley has been telling him AU is will treat him like family. Right now not claiming any leaders but made it clear he wants to visit AU again. Also despite getting a bunch of offers recently he pinned the AU offer tweet so obviously AU lock....

The Opening Houston Top Five Defensive Performers (Scout)

The Opening Houston Top Five Offensive Performers (Scout)

The Opening Houston Finals Invites & Camp MVPs (Scout)

Not sure any of those guys are real AU targets or not but not much info coming out on 2018 recruiting at the moment so best I could find

Will be interested to see where guys like Harold Joiner, John Campbell, Ed Montilus, Gerry Bohannon and Shedrick Jackson all end up ranked. We seem to be high on all these guys lists and some like Campell and Bohannon have gotten a lot of offers recently

My guess would be
Joiner - 4*
Campbell - 4*
Bohannon - 4*
Montilus - 3*
Jackson - 3*

Unfortunately the Joiner kid might play behind the worst OL in class 7 football. One of our employees has a kid on that OL. It's not a good group.

EDIT: I still haven't heard much about Sean Elmore. My wife knows the mother and is always posting FB stuff about the kid going to Auburn and participating in the camps. Not sure what he's ranked but he's a great athlete. He may end up playing basketball somewhere instead.

Jackson will remain a 3* as long as he is headed to AU.

His camps have shown all we need to see, and he is legit.

Let them hate.

ETA: And eat cake...

How Auburn recruited the state of Alabama better in 2017 than it had in more than a decade (SECCountry)
quote:

After signing just five players from the state of Alabama in 2016, Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn said he made in-state recruiting a strong focus in 2017. And the rankings show the Tigers went above and beyond in accomplishing Malzahn’s mission.

Auburn signed 10 in-state players to its 2017 class and made Alabama the cornerstone of a regional-heavy recruiting strategy.

“Once again, the state of Alabama was a priority for us,” Malzahn said last Wednesday. “We signed 10 players from the state of Alabama, six from the state of Georgia and four from Florida. Those are our three states we make our living in so real pleased with that.”

Simply put, Auburn’s 2017 haul of Alabama recruits is the highest-rated for the program in more than a decade.

Of the 10 in-state signees, six were consensus blue-chip — that is, 5-star or 4-star — recruits. That beat the class of 2015’s total of five blue-chippers. According to 247Sports, Auburn hadn’t signed more than five Alabama blue-chip recruits in the modern era of recruiting rankings, which dates back to 2002.

Auburn’s 2002 class is closest comparison to the 2017 class in terms of elite in-state talent. In 2002, Auburn signed Alabama’s No. 1 player, 5-star wide receiver Ben Obomanu, along with the state’s No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6-ranked prospects — Montae Pitts, Tommy Jackson and Brandon Cox. (The Tigers also signed Alabama’s No. 7 through 11 players in that class, which were all high 3-stars.)

KN put up another VIP article on 2018 target. This one was on NR LB Channing Tindall. He plays at same school Travis Williams was DC at so that seems to be something they are bonding over. He really enjoyed his trip to AU for junior day. Unrated but has lots of offers including from Ohio State and Clemson. He talked with both T-WILL and Garner as it sounds like he could end up at Buck or LB. Definitely plans on returning for a game

In a weird kinda way, alabama's national recruiting approach has helped us lock down some guys that in years past would've ended up in Tuscaloosa.

Was curious about this because I feel same way too. It seems like AU has held up decently instate in recent seasons after getting whooped early. Here's the numbers tho starting with when Saban arrived

2007 - AU (3) AL (5)
2008 - AU (0) AL (7) --> dear god we got murdered that year. AL took 15 of top 20
2009 - AU (2) AL (8) --> they took the top 8....
2010 - AU (3) AL (6)
2011 - AU (5) AL (4) --> only year we signed more was after NC win
2012 - AU (1) AL (5)
2013 - AU (2) AL (6) --> AL takes top 5
2014 - AU (4) AL (5)
2015 - AU (5) AL (5)
2016 - AU (2) AL (4)
2017 - AU (3) AL (6) --> AL lands top 3

So we have done a bit better recently than we did at first but they still for the most part are winning instate mainly when it comes to the top guys. I will say the bigger difference is the 11-20 group. We are doing much better there recently than we did awhile back and I think some of that has to do with Bama going more national

Not gonna lie looking back on some those rankings was very depressing. That 2008 & 2009 class is what changed the game imo

KN had article up on 3* DE Andres Fox yesterday. He visited for junior day 2 weekends ago and came away very impressed. This is apparently his 3rd visit. Travis Williams is his area recruiter and sounds like the 2 talk a lot. Apparently the recreation center and the indoor practice facility really stood out to him. He has a top 3 of Penn State, Mississippi State and Auburn

Highlight film for anyone interested. My guess is he is a buck target but I think he could play the SDE spot too if he put on a bit more weight. I expect he moves up the rankings a bit this cycle
