Keith says he will have some major news this morning on a top 50 recruit. Not sure who that might be

Also KN says staff did not expect Monday's commitment at all. It took em by surprise. But apparently during talking with them Monday leaned over and said something to his mom, they both smiled and he told coaches he was going to commit. Staff was pumped. Also source says "they ain't done"

5 things you should know about new Auburn safety commit Quindarious Monday (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn received momentous news Tuesday when 4-star safety Quindarious Monday committed to the Tigers during his visit.

The Carver (Ga.) talent chose Auburn over Clemson, Georgia, Florida and others. It moved Auburn up 10 spots in the rankings and set the Tigers up for an eventful few weeks.

Here are five things you should know about Auburn’s newest commitment.

1. Everyone calls him ‘Smoke’

His name is Quindarious Monday, which is an awesome name in its own right. But if you go to to a Carver High (Ga.) football game, you likely won’t hear anyone call him that. They’ll call him “Smoke.”

Why?

Because of his speed. Since he was a kid, Monday had a tendency to be faster than everyone else his age. That hasn’t changed much as he’s aged despite the fact he now stands 6-foot-3.

2. His favorite player is Sean Taylor

Check out Monday’s Twitter bio: “Carver high school DB career ender.”

Does that remind you of another legendary safety’s defensive mentality? If it doesn’t, scan down another line: “LongLiveSeanTaylor I destroy wide receiver and running backs for entertainment.”

I can vouch for this. I’ve seen Monday first hand, and he truly brings the boom. He doesn’t just honor the late Miami great safety with his play, though. He’s also got some pretty sweet kicks.

3. He fills a major need for Auburn

Auburn has some work left to do in the 2018 recruiting class, but there are a few position groups that can suffer some misses this cycle. Safety isn’t one of those positions.

The Tigers are in need of safety depth for the 2017 season, so just imagine how concerning the situation could be in 2018 with a weak safety class. Monday fixes that problem in a big way.

I had one Auburn staff member tell me that Monday might be the biggest commitment possible, at this time, because of the desperation at safety. Plus, he’s got an alpha dog mentality that any big-time college football coach would want.

This guy might have been most important defensive recruit. Really need someone who can challenge for early playing time and he will. Needs a bit more weight on that frame but excited to see what he can do early on at AU

4. He plays on same 7-on-7 team as Justin Fields

Monday stars for the Cam Newton 7v7 squad.

That matters because he’s teammates and friends with the new No. 1 prospect in the nation — 5-star quarterback Justin Fields — as well as 4-star wide receiver Kearis Jackson. Both of those prospects will be at Auburn on Wednesday, so the timing of Monday’s decision is quite welcome on the Tigers’ end.

Before Monday left Tuesday, he’s already reached out to a group chat with Fields, Jackson and others to let them know of his decision.

That has to be positive momentum for Auburn heading into Wednesday and beyond.

5. He was going to commit to another school this month until …

… Auburn stole him away.

Monday told SEC Country that, as recently as last week, his plan was to take a visit to Auburn, a visit to Georgia and then a visit to Clemson on July 21. He expected that visit to Clemson to be the end of his recruitment. He’d grown up a Clemson fan, and that’s where he thought he’d commit in 10 days.

But the Auburn visit reminded him why he’d called those Tigers his leader for so long. He figured there was no sense in waiting — or even taking those other two visits. He’s with the Tigers, after all, just not necessarily the one everyone expected.

It's about damn time we stole a DB from Clemson after Mackenzie Alexander, AJ Terrall & LeAnthony Williams recently. Feels good

Auburn lands commitment from Georgia safety Quindarious Monday (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn picked up a commitment Tuesday night from Quindarious Monday, a four-star safety from Atlanta.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Monday is the nation's No. 9-ranked athlete, No. 221 prospect nationally and No. 24 prospect in Georgia.

Monday preps at Carver High School in Atlanta. He chose the Tigers over Georgia and Clemson, among others, while on a visit to Auburn Tuesday. Schools such as Florida, Florida State and Tennessee were also in the mix.

Monday told AL.com earlier this spring that Auburn was his leader and that he describes himself as a "just brutal" hitter who loves contact.

"The love they show," Monday said this spring. "I interact with all the coaches and they interact with me on a daily basis. I recently heard from Coach Gus (Malzahn) Thursday as a matter of fact. He told me he wants me to get up (to campus) one of these Saturdays so I can see the scrimmage in the stadium and be by his side and see how it goes."

Monday is commitment No. 8 for Auburn in this class. Check out the current list.

Auburn takes Crystal Ball lead for another 4-star (247)
quote:

Is Auburn recruiting on the upswing?

It certainly feels that way.

On Tuesday, the Tigers received a surprise commit from 4-star safety Quindarious Monday of Atlanta (Ga.) Carver. The same day, Auburn moved in front in the 247Sports Crystal Ball for another 4-star recruit.

That would be linebacker Michael Harris of Tucker High near Atlanta, Ga.

Auburn now holds 67 percent of the predictions to 33 percent for Ohio State. Georgia also is in the mix but the Bulldogs have no picks at this time.

Kipp Adams, Demetric Warren and Benjamin Wolk all put CB picks in last night for Harris to AU. I will be equally pumped if we snag Harris as he's my favorite LB in the southeast

So trying to guess on the top 50 recruit news this morning. Based off composite 247 the candidates would be:

Justin Fields
Trey Hill
Justyn Ross
JJ Peterson
William Barnes

Just 247 rankings would be:

Justin Fields
Channing Tindall
Azeez Ojulari

I don't see Fields committing or Ross. It could be a "Ross is also visiting with Fields" type of thing. Ojulari is planning on committing soon but seems to be an UGA lean. Maybe Tindall? Will be interesting to see what this news is and who it's about

KN's update is out. It's on 5* RB James Cook. Apparently we are one of his 3 leaders along with Georgia and LSU. His mom says that UGA leads but they are planning on visiting AU & LSU. His mom (who plays a HUGE role in his recruitment, she does all his interviews it seems) says she has not been to AU yet but will come on visit. Says AU has been recruiting him a while and we are in the race

So not as a huge of update as hoped but still interesting. Momma LOVES UGA so we got some work to do but good to know we are in the hunt

I think it's pretty huge. Just show them the numbers we have put up with those No talent, projects as Spots says & tell them to just imagine what a kid with your kind of talent can do.
