Greg Brown hasn't done anything of note yet but I may be changing my tune on him as a recruiter after all.

You have to wonder if that last star or 2 is due to name.

Elite wide receiver target Matthew Hill connects with Kodi Burns’ youth, alumni experience (SECCountry)
quote:

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver hasn’t laid out a top group, but so far Auburn finds itself in good position.

“It’s just a great spot to be in,” Hill said. “They’re about family. No matter if you’re injured or not, they’re still going to treat you like you’re their son. They’re always going to be there for you. It’s just a good coaching staff in general.”

While he doesn’t have a top group, Auburn, Florida State and South Carolina look like early favorites, if you follow the visits.

Hill visited the Tigers in January and donned a full Auburn pullover and had a Tigers’ lanyard, so that pro-Auburn wardrobe should be considered a positive sign.

Auburn’s biggest influence on Hill so far has been his relationship with coaches. Travis Williams initiated contact with Hill, but it has been wide receiver coach Kodi Burns who has taken over recently.

“He’s an alumni from here. He’s a young coach. Since he’s an alumni from here, he knows what’s best,” Hill said.

Hill hasn’t had full sit-down time with new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, but the pair have gotten to know each other. Lindsey gave Hill confidence that wide receivers will be a more integral part of the offense in 2017, which will likely have strong quarterback play.

Hill, like many other receiver prospects, mentioned the addition of Jarrett Stidham to add competition to the quarterback room.

“They’ve struggled in the quarterback spot. That’s been the downfall of Auburn,” Hill said. “They finally got the guy from Baylor, so maybe there’s more hope for Auburn in the future there.”

Auburn becomes immediate contender for LB Ernest Jones (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn became an immediate contender this week for linebacker Ernest Jones.

The three-star linebacker at Ware County High School in Waycross, Ga., picked up an offer from the Tigers Wednesday.

"Growing up that was one of my dream schools, so it felt real good when I got that offer," Jones told AL.com. "Right now I'd say Auburn is No. 2 behind Georgia Tech. I've only visited Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech and Auburn stay in contact with me a bunch."

Jones said Auburn began contacting him in December, and the Tigers increased their pursuit after National Signing Day Feb. 1. The offer was extended over the phone by linebackers coach Travis Williams and offensive line coach Herb Hand.

"They said they like my ability to not only play in the box, but to go out and run with receivers," Jones said. "I have hit power and I'll strike you. They like my length and they said I'm the perfect size for them."

Auburn still on the mind of 2019 Texas WR Jalen Curry (Rivals)
quote:

The Latest: Auburn was the first program to enter the mix for Class of 2019 wide receiver Jalen Curry and even though it’s been more than six months since the Tigers offered, the two sides have remained very close. Curry has seen a flurry of offers recently, with programs like Georgia, Oklahoma and others joining the mix. But according to Curry, the Tigers are still a factor. Rivals.com caught up with him to talk Auburn.

In His Words: “When I camped there and earned the offer it wasn’t something I was expecting. But since then we’ve been talking a lot. My main recruiter there is Coach Burns, the wide receivers coach. I really like him. He’s a good person and he would like for me to come visit again. He’s a young guy and he can relate to younger people like me. We have a real good relationship. He can relate us so that’s really good. I do want to get back for a visit. It was a great experience being on campus. The atmosphere is nice. The people treat you right and the whole SEC thing is just perfect. I love the SEC and I have family in Georgia so they wouldn’t be too far away either.”

Rivals Reaction: The SEC has done a good job of plucking players out of Texas in recent years and it’s clear that Curry is a target of several programs, including Auburn. The fact that the Tigers were his first offer and that he’s already been on campus is a great start. Curry will be a prime target for several schools so it will be interesting to watch how his recruitment plays out.

AU recently offered 4* OT Tommy Brown from California who is a bama legacy (dad threw shotput for Tide). Says despite that he is giving Tigers a shot. Likes Hand a lot and plans on making a trip to both Bama & AU over his spring break all via KN

Why are we wasting time on a bama legacy from California and Dalvin Cook's brother? Save the time and resources for people we have a shot with.

I mean it's not like we are not recruiting plenty of other guys. No harm in seeing if some of these guys are open to coming especially if you think they are better than other options. Seems like a weird thing to complain about but I guess it's so early gotta search for something
