Glad it went this route with Antwuan Jackson. Him leaving hurts our depth. I tend to size with the coaches/schools as opposed to the players.

I take it in a case by case basis. In this case AJ was very lazy in practice & the weight room. That shouldn't be rewarded with an unconditional release. If he busted his arse & it didn't work out then ok. I could see a full release then.

Remember when he was mad at us for offering late and didn't think he fit in Bama's system? Turns out neither one of those matter

Bama plays by a different set of rules sometimes. It sucks.

Bo Jackson’s nephew, Hoover WR Shedrick Jackson, commits to Auburn (OAN)
quote:

Shedrick Jackson has decided to continue a family legacy.

The nephew of Auburn legend Bo Jackson announced Monday morning in a video produced by AL.com that he has verbally committed to the Tigers, the same team his Heisman Trophy-winning uncle starred for when he rushed for 4,303 yards over four seasons from 1982-85.

The three-star Hoover High wide receiver chose Auburn over the rest of the schools in his top five, which also featured Mississippi State, Missouri, Georgia Tech and Memphis.

Jackson, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 195 pounds, caught 43 passes for 661 yards and three touchdowns during his junior season at Hoover. The 247Sports composite ranks him as the No. 89 wide receiver in the Class of 2018 and No. 16 recruit in the state of Alabama.

He’s also plenty familiar with Jordan-Hare Stadium, having helped lead the Buccaneers to a Class 7A state title game victory over McGill-Toolen on Nov. 30.

Jackson is Auburn’s seventh commitment in the 2018 class, joining quarterback Joey Gatewood, defensive end Daquan Newkirk, running back Shaun Shivers, athlete Kolbi Fuqua, and offensive linemen Jalil Irvin and Kameron Stutts.

BREAKING: Shedrick Jackson, nephew of Bo Jackson, commits to Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Shedrick Jackson is keeping it in the family.

The 3-star wide receiver from Hoover, Ala., is the nephew of Auburn legend Bo Jackson. On Monday, the younger Jackson took another step to following in his uncle’s footsteps when he committed to Auburn over the other four schools in his top 5, which included Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Memphis and Missouri.

Jackson is Auburn’s seventh commitment in the 2018 recruiting class. He joins Kolbi Fuqua, who could also play on defense, as wide receivers already committed to the Tigers.

“Obviously it’s going to get a lot of attention. But really what you’ve got to do is go out there and make a name for yourself. It’s not Bo Jackson going out there anymore. It’s not him scoring touchdowns or running 40-yard dashes,” Jackson told SEC Country last month. “You’ve got to go out there and make a name for yourself.”

Jackson sits at No. 89 among wide receivers in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite. He is No. 531 overall. With Jackson’s commitment, the Tigers become the No. 47 class in the recruiting team rankings with 122.04 composite points. Auburn jumped Iowa State, Ole Miss, SMU, California, Cincinnati and Colorado.

When Jackson spoke with SEC Country earlier in the spring, he spoke briefly about his Uncle Bo. He hopes to use his uncle’s Auburn success as motivation, but he also doesn’t want that legendary status to define him as he attempts to make his own name on the Plains.

“There are tons of expectations, but really I just want to go out there and be better than he was,” Jackson said.

Shedrick Knows! Jackson commits to Auburn (247)
quote:

After one recent visit to Auburn, Shedrick Jackson called it “special place.”

Next year, he’ll be calling it home.

Jackson, the nephew of Auburn legend Bo Jackson and a talented receiver from Hoover (Ala.), committed to the Tigers on Monday morning. He chose Auburn over programs such as Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Missouri.

For Auburn, Jackson is commitment No. 7 in the 2018 class. The 6-feet-1, 195-pound Jackson, who claims double digit offers (three from SEC schools), is the No. 89 receiver in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He holds a 3-star ranking.

Forget about his famous relative, Jackson’s scholarship offer was one he earned.

While helping Hoover win a state championship in 2016, Jackson amassed more than 40 receptions for 600-plus yards.

Some highlights:

-Four catches in the state final.

-102 receiving yards vs. Phenix City (Ala) Central.

-Five receptions for 81 yards in the state semifinals.

-A 40-yard catch in a playoff win over Madison (Ala.) James Clemens.

-A 64-yard touchdown catch vs. Thompson (Ala.)

-A team-high 51 receiving yards vs. nationally ranked Allen (Tx.).

Jackson followed that up with a strong showing on the camp circuit. First in January and then again in March, he performed — and tested — well — at stops in San Antonio, Texas, and Atlanta, Ga.

Not long after the latter event, Auburn offered Jackson a scholarship and he quickly became a major Tigers target and a priority recruit.

While camping at Auburn on June 17, he recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.34 seconds (hand-time), a broad jump of 10 feet, 11 inches and a 40-inch vertical jump. That athleticism is one reason Jackson shot up Auburn’s board.

Jackson has made at least four trips to Auburn this year.

The next time he visits, he’ll do so not as a target but as a Tigers commit.

5 things you should know about new Auburn legacy commit Shedrick Jackson (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Gus Malzahn fired off his obligatory “Boom!” and Auburn’s summer commitment wave finally hit.

The Tigers have been commitment-free since the spring game when they landed two. On Monday, their drought ended with an Auburn legacy target announced his commitment to the Tigers in a video with AL.com. Shedrick Jackson committed to Auburn over Missouri, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Memphis.

Here are five things every Auburn fan should know about its newest commitment.

1. Yes, he is the nephew of the greatest athlete ever.

It’s been said many times before, but let’s get it out of the way.

Shedrick Jackson’s uncle is Auburn legend Bo Jackson. The younger Jackson doesn’t want that to be too much of a talking point. He’s trying to make a name for himself, and his uncle’s status on the Plains even made Shedrick hesitant to choose the Tigers at first.

When it was all said and done, the family connection to Auburn — and the fact Shedrick and his family have rooted for the Tigers his whole life — couldn’t be ignored.

2. Jackson shined at an Auburn camp a few weeks ago.

Apparently some of Bo’s mystique, however, is genetic.

Shedrick attended an Auburn recruiting camp a few weeks ago just to get some work in. Already impressed by Jackson, the Auburn coaching staff was blown away by the performance he put on during his day trip to the Plains.

In the 40-yard dash, Shedrick mimicked his uncle with back-to-back times of 4.31 seconds and 4.32 seconds. So maybe those numbers don’t have the “no way” pop of his uncle’s sub-4.1 legend, but narrowly missing the sub-4.3 mark isn’t nothing to scoff at.

On top of that, Shedrick showed his mechanical route running that makes it almost impossible for defensive backs to stop him.

3. Jackson will surprise people who see him as a 3-star.

Take one look at Jackson and one look at his 247Sports composite ranking. It may surprise you.

He’s listed as a 3-star prospect, the No. 89 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 531 overall prospect nationally. The word underrated is tossed around too much on the recruiting circuit (guilty as charged), but it seems fitting in Jackson’s case. Put it this way: Good luck finding 88 wide receivers better than Jackson.

At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds — oh yeah, and his 4.3 speed — Jackson can do everything you ask him to do as a wide receiver. He has the ability to serve in a number of different roles in Auburn’s offense, but as the first true wide receiver (Kolbi Fuqua could be a DB) to join the class, Chip Lindsey is getting a versatile weapon that can line up at most wide receiver positions.

As for Jackson’s ranking, maybe people didn’t want to overhype him because he’s Bo Jackson’s nephew, hence his surprisingly low rating for a tall, rangy receiver with great hands and a high IQ.

4. He’s a state champion.

Of course he is. He plays for Hoover High School.

That state’s most well-known football power has been kind to Auburn recently. Stud linebacker Darrell Williams went there. Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey has made the quick rise from Hoover OC to Auburun OC with only a few pit stops in between.

If you go to Hoover, there’s a good chance you’re leaving with a state championship in football. After his junior season, Jackson has two. Hoover won during his freshman season before he was a major contributor, but Jackson & Co. scored another state title in Jordan-Hare Stadium in December.

Hoover topped the defending state champions McGill-Toolen inside the same stadium Jackson will play his college ball. Jackson caught four passes in that game. He snagged 43 passes for 661 yards and three touchdowns for the full season.

5. Jackson, a top-notch student, plans to enroll early.

There was a time when two high-academic schools had a great chance to land Jackson. He really like Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt in the early going. Both of those school offer a great academic situation to go along with the student-athlete experience.

That’s something that matters to Jackson.

He will graduated from Hoover in December and graduate early. That means he’ll sign his paperwork during the early signing period, as he would’ve regardless of the new rules.

Jackson plans to study business management or marketing in college.

“There’s something about schools like Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech and the way they carry themselves academically. That’s something that I take pride in, my academics. I just want to go in and work hard,” Jackson told SEC Country earlier in the year.

Agreed. One of the better recruit video and I am sure I am not influenced at all by who he picked

The great thing about him is it seems like every time he goes to a camp or event he looks better. I am really excited to see what he will do this year in Hoover's offense.

I'm no doubt happy Shed shined at AU's camp & good for him but I just don't know how much stock to take in it. I look at our camps & I look at others camps like Bama, LSU, & tOSU & it just seems to me they get better quality recruits at their camps and thus the competition likely better.

I think that's fair. The good thing is he did dominate against competition he needs to dominate against, if that makes sense

I don't think Jackson is a top 150 player or anything but he seems to have improved over the past year. Definitely gonna be paying attention to Hoover this fall to see how it translates to the field

FWIW Barton Simmons said that Jackson might get a bit of a rating bump. I don't know if he will ever be 4* composite WR but I think he is a bit better than where he's currently rated

I think he is good enough to be a 4*. I really like him as a prospect. I've watched him play a few times. He just looks like it is so easy out there.

Agreed. He's got that Hoover in him & dominates who he is supposed to.

I'll give you another reason to watch them. 2019 WR George Pickens. He looks to have more upside & explosiveness to me in the long run.

AU has been sending out some pretty sweet graphics today. I feel like we have improved in that department recently. I used to cringe at some of the stuff we put out but now they look kind of sweet. Here's what I have seen so far

4* DT Coynis Miller

3* RB Shaun Shivers (AU Commit)

3* CB Juanyeh Thomas

3* OT Jerome Carvin

3* OG Kameron Stutts (AU commit)

3* OG/C Jalil Irvin (AU Commit)
