one of my favorite days of the year on twitter is the day that Auburn players report. Just reminds me of how insanely awesome it is to finally be a college student at Auburn and that first feeling of independence and being a young adult. Congrats to those young men.

Rivals releasing updated rankings this week, I think top 100 drops today. Chad Simmons has already said Quindarious Monday is getting a bump. He's a 3* on Rivals

And Justyn Ross the 2nd highest rated WR in the 100. Grabbing both would be amazing. Ross should be moving up on 247 inside the top 10

Looks like 247 just released updated rankings too and Fields is now #2 player in country on their list

Edit: Actually I think they just bumped Fields, not a full release

Looks like T-WILL is gonna have all his top LB targets on campus

JJ Peterson
Michael Harris
Zakoby McClain
Channing Tindall
Quay Walker

All expected to visit. Any 2-3 from that group would be successful class

Whose ready for some updates? Gonna start with 247 stuff
Memorial Day with Cam and Justin (247)
quote:

SNELLVILLE, Ga., -- Cam Newton's Foundation held its annual Memorial Day Classic 7-on-7 event Monday at Shiloh High. Newton, the former Auburn great who now is quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, was on hand along with dozens of future major college players. One of them was 5-star Penn State quarterback commit Justin Fields, a top Tigers target. He's the quarterback for Newton's squad. Here's a gallery of those two from the event -- along with a few other Auburn targets.

Watch: 5-star QB Fields picks apart defenses (247)

Trying really hard not to get hopes up that we flip Fields. In a perfect world we get two great years from Stidham and then have a Willis/Fields/Gatewood/Nix battle in 2019. But I will believe it when I see it

KN says 2019 QB Bo Nix will not be at BCW. Sounds like they are just taking a break from visits right now and KN doesn't think it's a big deal

KN had an insider up yesterday. Here's summary:

- 4* S Quindarious Monday thinks AU is gonna push hard for him to commit this weekend but as of now does not plan on pulling trigger. In fact it sounds like he has decided to push his decision later so he can make more visits. Now he's talking about committing during the season. He now claims he doesn't have a leader tho still says he really likes AU. Mentions Florida, Florida State & Tennessee as teams coming after him too. Apparently Greg Brown and Travis Williams are main guys recruiting him right now and he likes both. His dad plans to come with him on trip this weekend and possibly his mom. As of now does not have any other visits planned but don't be shocked if he takes a trip to Athens this summer as well

- 4* OG Tank Jenkins might visit this weekend but not certain right now

- 3* TE Tyneil Hopper (ESPN has him terribly underrated so now a 3* composite) is planning on camping at AU either June 8th or June 15h. KN says camping will probably boost his stock with coaching staff

- KN says that AU is starting to recruit 3* TE Maleak Bryant who is committed to Maryland. Sounds like he will probably camp with aU

- So apparently he asked an unnamed teammates of Justin Fields where he thinks he signs and recruit said "You know, I think it might be Auburn". Need to get Fields to visit

KN also had VIP article on 5* Justin Fields and Cam Newton's relationship. Fields plays on his 7v7 team and grew up an AU fan. Apparently they talk all the time and Cam is something of a mentor to Fields. Cam is reason Fields is an AU fan. Fields and his family have an open line of communication with Cam and can talk to him anytime they want. Cam told reporters at the 7v7 event this past weekend he doesn't understand how Fields is not the #1 player in the country. Unfortunately for us it does not sound like Cam is pushing AU on Fields but the good news is he has been really positive about Malzahn. Fields wants to have a final decision this summer possibly by end of June

If we can get him on campus I think we got a shot but until a visit happens not gonna get hopes up... Or at least hopes not too high

Watch: Safety target Quindarious Monday shines at 7-on-7 (247)

Monday played a lot of CB this past weekend. Dude is super skinny but really long. Apparently Greg Brown trying to sell him on being the next HaHa Clinton-Dix who he coached when he was at Bama

KN posted another recruiting insider today with some interesting notes

- AU is hard after 4* WR Kearis Jackson who is probably an UGA lean right now. Jackson says he talks a bunch with Burns and with his area recruiter Kevin Steele. However, he says UGA is recruiting him the hardest with AU 2nd & OHST 3rd. Says AU selling him on being a different type of WR in their system, since we are recruiting/signed plenty of bigger guys he can be a change to the offense. He's encouraged by change in passing game for AU. The good news is he does not plan to commit until later in the fall as he wants to see how his top teams do specifically how their passing games look. That could be good news for AU if Stidham is half the guy we hope he is

- Brannigan will love this... AU is apparently targeting JUCO DT Tayland Humphrey. Dude is 350 lbs We offered him last fall and are apparently one of his top schools along with Louisville and Texas A&M. Chances are high he will camp with AU this summer

- BCW check in is 10 AM Saturday and will end around 5:30 PM. AU is expecting 30-40 targets on campus. Here's the current confirmed list KN has:

3* OT Jerome Carvin
3* S Joseph Foucha
4* DE Andres Fox
3* LB Michael Harris
4* WR Matthew Hill
4* OG Trey Hill
4* WR Kearis Jackson
3* WR Shedrick Jackson
3* Buck Richard Jibunor
4* RB Asa Martin
4* LB Zakoby McClain
4* CB Kyler McMichael
4* DT Coynis Miller
4* S Quindarious Monday
3* DE Azeez Ojulari
4* LB JJ Peterson
3* RB Tae Provens
4* WR Justyn Ross
3* S Jamien Sherwood
3* DE Caleb Tannor
3* CB Juanyeh Thomas
4* LB Channing Tindall
4* LB/Buck Quay Walker

That's a damn good list

Honestly if all those guys show up might just be one of the strongest BCW I can remember. Only two names I wish that were on the list are Master Teague and William Barnes. Overall though hard to complain about that visitor list

KN says that 4* RB Harold Joiner and 4* S Myles Mason will most likely not be at BCW. At this point I will be stunned if Joiner doesn't end up at LSU

Could this help AU's recruitment of Michael Harris? (247)
quote:

If Ohio State lands this LB, the means fewer spots for HUGE Auburn target Michael Harris. AU has Harris extremely high on its board. He'll be at Big Cat.

https://247sports.com/Article/247Sports-Crystal-Ball-pick-Solomon-Tuliaupupu-to-Ohio-State-52958276

Really looking like Ohio State is going to pass on Harris. That would be amazing for AU. Harris is freaking legit. Ohio State though is basically hand picking elite LBs

Out-of-state receiver Lawrence Keys, in-state cornerback JaKorey Hawkins strongly considering Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

Louisiana WR has Auburn in top after visit

Auburn is in the race for 4-star wide receiver Lawrence Keys III.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound prospect from McDonogh 35 (La.) in New Orleans released a lengthy top-13 list over the weekend, and Auburn made the cut. Alabama, Michigan, LSU, TCU, Houston, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Colorado State and Texas-San Antonio joined the Tigers on the list.

LSU is considered the favorite with four crystal ball predictions in its favor, but Keys’ widespread range of programs proves his willingness to look outside his state. He did that with Auburn earlier in the spring when Keys and a few high school teammates made a trip up to the Plains for junior days.

The Tigers made an overwhelming impression on Keys, the No. 37 receiver in the country per the 247Sports composite rankings.

“It went great. I got a chance to meet the coaches, visit the campus, look around more. I had a good time knowing the coaches well,” Keys said. “I was amazed by how it went. It was really wonderful.”

Keys said he hopes to make it up to Auburn again before he makes his decision, and that visit might coincide with a trip to Alabama.

Something playing in the Tigers’ favor is the high opinion one of Keys’ teammates has of Auburn. Keys is close friends and high school teammates with Joseph Foucha, who is one of Auburn’s top defensive back targets and has a mutual interest in the Tigers. Foucha will unquestionably visit Auburn over the weekend, and the Tigers hope Keys comes along.

Keys is the No. 6 prospect in the state of Louisiana and the No. 189 overall recruit in the nation. Larry Porter, once the nation’s best recruiter in the Louisiana area, is Keys’ lead recruiter.

Underrated in-state CB considering Auburn more

No surprise on this one: JaKorey Hawkins placed Auburn in his top 10.

The 3-star cornerback from Lee (Ala.) in Montgomery picked up an Auburn offer a few weeks ago, which was matched by offers from Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Penn State and South Carolina. All five of those programs cracked the group, as well as Missouri, West Virginia, Maryland, Troy and Florida Atlantic.

If Alabama or Michigan were to offer — two programs who have communicated but haven’t offered — then both of those schools would make the group.

Hawkins told SEC Country a couple weeks ago that his communication with the Tigers has been limited, but it has picked up since we spoke earlier in the spring when contact was non-existent. Auburn will work to get Hawkins up over the summer for further evaluation. It’s unknown how linked Hawkins’ recruitment is to that of Jalyn Armour-Davis, who pushed back his decision date at the end of last week.

Hawkins isn’t highly rated, but his stock is growing quickly.

He’s the No. 685 overall prospect nationally and the 59th-ranked cornerback, but he’s someone that the Tigers likely could make a major push for in case of other misses including Armour-Davis, Jordan Miner, Juanyeh Thomas or others.

The recruiting strategy is similar to that of another defensive back from a year ago: Daniel Thomas.

Thomas and Hawkins were high school teammates, and that has been one of the enticing Auburn factors for the 2018 cornerback.

“He said he’s always talking about me to the coaches and stuff. We have a great relationship. I’ve known him ever since I’ve been at Lee. He helped me through everything at Lee. He tells me it’s a great school and everything,” Hawkins said. “Of course, it’s going to be hard to start. Plus he was underrated in high school, so it was especially hard for him. He just keeps telling me to keep working and stay focused.”

FWIW KN seems to think we haven't really turned heat up on him just yet. Focus seems to be on Thomas/Armour-Davis/McMichael

Auburn tight end target Tyneil Hopper plans mid-June visit; Justin Fields makes case for No. 1 (SECCountry)
quote:

2018 tight end target plans Auburn visit

Expect Tyneil Hopper back on the Plains within the next few weeks.

The 3-star tight end from Roswell (Ga.) won’t be at Big Cat Weekend on June 3, but he’ll return to Auburn soon after. Hopper has open dates on June 8 and June 15 and is leaning toward the latter date for a follow-up visit to the Tigers.

It will be Hopper’s third appearance at Auburn since the start of the new year, when his prior relationship with Larry Porter combined with his previous familiarity with the Tigers formed a welcoming union.

“Auburn is a great place to be,” Hopper told SEC Country.

Hopper hopes to make his decision before the start of his senior season, but he only wants to do it “if the feeling is right.”

From preconceived notions, North Carolina is cast as the favorite. His brother plays there. Hopper’s relationship with Porter stemmed from his time on the Tar Heels’ staff. North Carolina is where Hopper has visited most frequently, along with Auburn. All three Crystal Ball projections say the Tar Heels snag the Georgia tight end.

But Auburn has some advantages as well:

- Hopper visits Auburn as much as any school.
- He was high school teammates with Auburn quarterback Malik Willis.
- Proximity to home favors the Tigers.
- Hopper likes idea of playing in the SEC.

This visit to Auburn will come at a crossroads in the Tigers’ 2018 recruiting class as they search for their new tight ends. With only two on the roster, Auburn has a chance of signing two in the upcoming class, and Hopper has been one on the radar since the beginning of the year.

He hasn’t specified a top list yet but said he’s working to narrow it down following a few early summer visits. Hopper hopes this will make his end-of-summer decision process more fluid.

I want him or John FitzPatrick as TE in this class

Top Auburn QB target continues conversation starting

Auburn’s chase for another quarterback in the 2018 class starts with Mr. Justin Fields. The Tigers aren’t alone. When it’s all said and done, Fields will compete with once-in-a-generation talent Trevor Lawrence for the No. 1 overall ranking among recruiting services. I suppose that makes the star-studded duo a twice-in-generation combo.

Either way, Fields has continued his climb.

On Monday, the Penn State quarterback commit — being chased by Auburn, Florida and Georgia — showed why he’s becoming so highly touted. At the Cam Newton Memorial Day Class 7-on-7 tournament, he flashed a few highlight-reel throws, including a bomb with 30 seconds to go to seal the deal.

If there is one person itching to watch Fields’ continued rankings climb, it’s Cam Newton.

The Heisman winner from Auburn has watched Fields progress up close and personal and witnessed firsthand what the dual-threat quarterback can do against top competition. Newton spoke with Kipp Adams of 247Sports. Newton’s stance on where Fields should be ranked is cut and dry.

“Why isn’t he the No. 1 overall quarterback in the country? Pound for pound, he is the best player in this class. What more does he have to do?” Newton told Adams. “He has it all — he commands the huddle, can see the entire field, can extend plays and makes throws very few can. Like I said, he is pound for pound, the best quarterback.”

Newton’s point holds true.

There isn’t anything else Fields can do.

Lawrence has been slotted as the No. 1 player since his sophomore season and for good reason. The two bring a contrast of skill sets but equal production. It will be fun to watch these two Georgia prospects go head to head at Elite 11 camps and through weekly performance comparisons during Georgia’s 2017 high school football season.

This might become a 1a-1b conversation.
