I think it's a possibility... but we saw it with Arkansas this year... They slid a potential all American guard out to tackle and their OL struggled early in the year.

You gotta weigh the pros and cons... smith seems to be built more like a tackle... but he's got no experience there.

Luckily we barely have true drop back passes in the passing game so the OTs don't have to be pass blocking savants.

Wtf? You don't think our tackles need to be able to block well to run that slow-developing whirly-bird deep pass Gus loves so much?

Hell what about how Leff got worked by Tim Williams every pass down in the IB.

Well everyone seems to think Sean White will be QB. Think about how fricked we are if Leff is OT and White QB

Leff was put in an impossible spot last year... backup OT with no experience playing against the best DL in America. He played bad, but so would 99% of all backup OLs in that position.

If he's a starter in 2016 and sucks, then yeah... but basing on those few plays last year is difficult.

Really? You realize that "whirly bird" statue of liberty fake end-around stuff is there specifically to slow down the defensive ends on the edge? That makes it MUCH easier for a tackle to dictate when contact is made and engage on his terms since the DE has to hesitate before heading up-field. 95% of the time our QBs have ALLLLLLLLLLLL day to throw when they run that.

Hasn't there been some talk the Smith may slide to LT? I think our starting O-line will be Smith, Golson, Kozan, Horton, and James.

IMO that'd be a mistake. Even though Smith is built like a tackle, he's an absolutely incredible Guard. No question, in my mind, that he's the best Guard returning in the SEC.

Another potential benefit would be that our H-Backs are 1 year wiser and stronger (Cox and Pettway) and the addition of Landon Rice could be helpful in chipping DEs or widening the edges for the DEs to make it a longer road to the QB. This, all assuming that we do in fact have some struggles at the tackle spots.

I'm not sure he is the best returning guard in the conference but I am with you on all the rest.
