class breakdown by P.F.D. on the Bunker (who is a JUCO coach, IIRC), along with an anonymous D1 coach friend of his who is staying with him for a day or 2...they decided to breakdown whatever highlights they could find of our signees and include a breakdown....enjoy:

There are 3 major things I look at when it comes to judging a recruiting class...Did the big in-state school/ schools want you, did the best teams want you, and what each player looks like on film. There are so many things that go into being a great player like toughness, work ethic, and attitude, but I obviously don't know those things about each player. Using the above criteria, here are my assessments of each player. (With assistance from an assistant D1 Football coach). Unfortunately, UAT will be the team I use when I look at the category of...Do the best teams want you .

Player Rivals Ranking In-State Offer Uat Offer My Ranking. What will their role be next year

Woody Barrett. 3*. Yes. Yes. 4*. Redshirt
Perfect fit for us. He's not the type of QB that is going to overly impress people in a camp setting. Fortunately for him, football is played in Pads. He seems to see the field well, and has the talent to be really good. So many intangibles are needed to be a great QB, but he definitely has what it takes from a talent standpoint.

John Broussard. 3*. No. No. Mid 3*. Redshirt
He has really quick feet, and good instincts. He breaks on the ball really well, but is very small. He has to get bigger imo to make an impact in the SEC, but has the raw talent needed and the time to develop with good coaching

Derrick Brown. 5*. Yes. Yes. 5*. Major part of rotation
Possibly the best player we signed. Absolute Animal. Great explosion. Montravious Adams contributed a good bit his freshman year, but I expect DB to have a bigger impact. I will be surprised if he's not a major part of the rotation next year. He's simply too good not to have an immediate impact. HUGE pickup.

Malon Character. 4*. Yes. Yes. Low 4*. Special Teams
Needs to get bigger and stronger, but so do most Highschool Seniors. He looks like a good athlete that has very long arms and is very smooth. Needs to gain some weight before making a big impact, but has the frame and athletic ability to be a really good player at some point.

Nick Coe. 4*. Yes. Yes. Very High 4*. Part of rotation
Reminds me of a typical Florida defensive lineman. I had no idea he was as big as he is. He is raw, but might have the most upside of anyone in the class. He has a nasty disposition, and plays with a great motor. I can see why everyone was on this guy until the end. He is very strong and incredibly athletic for someone as big as he is. Whenever he gets some seasoning, he is going to wreak havoc. It would not surprise me to see him play next fall.

Nate Craig Meyers. 4*. Yes. Yes. 5*. Major part of rotation
I mentioned earlier that Derrick Brown might be the best player we signed this year. I said might, because NCM is the other possibility. It is beyond laughable that this guy is rated a 4*. He might be a complete bust because of attitude, toughness, etc., (just throwing out random examples) , but judging on talent alone, he is going to be a star. I don't care what he did at camps either. He absolutely dominated in his games. NCM is a Julio Jones type talent, and will be a starter Game 1 assuming everything is GUCCI off the field. I have no reason to believe that it won't be. I'm very comfortable throwing myself out there for this guy, because he's that good. 4* my arse.

Marlon Davidson. 5*. Yes. Yes. 5*. Major part of rotation
LB7 said it best a while back when he said the class wouldn't feel right without him. He was right. You have to have guys like this to win championships. He's talented enough to win a starting position next year, but will be in the rotation at the very least. He will also be 1 of 5 5*s on the DL next year. He is obviously a great player. He's a great kid to, and that's not always the case with 5*s these days.

Kyle Davis 4*. Yes. Yes. 4*. Will be in rotation
He reminds me of a typical Steve Spurrier Receiver when he was at Florida. He has great body control, and attacks the ball with his hands. He is everything you want in a receiver, and can be as good as he wants to be. We are changing our identity a little bit at receiver, and starting to go after some bigger and more physical ones. ( Similar to what Ole Miss has done). Kyle fits that mold perfectly. He certainly has the talent and skill set to be on the field against Clemson.

Brodarrius Hamm. 3*. Yes. Yes. 3*. Redshirt
Very Good athlete, but Raw. He's very powerful, but needs some coaching and polishing. I'm not sure he has the feet or lateral agility to play outside, but could possibly develop into one down the road if need be. I would imagine he will remain inside, and help us at some point down the road. I think a key for him will be his fitness. If he stays in shape, he has the ability and temperament to contribute

Antwaun Jackson. 4*. Yes. Yes. 5*. Major part of rotation
Big time player, and could contribute next season. He's that good IMO. He is extremely quick, and plays with incredible technique. He seems to be really well coached. He knows how to use his hands, and plays mean. He probably has the best first step out of all the D lineman we signed. It's really remarkable how quick he is for 300. Lbs . I still can't believe we signed him, Brown and Davidson. I honestly believe he should be a 5*. There is a reason everybody in the country wanted him.

Paul James III. - Will play in certain packages and on special teams
I judge Juco's a little different. I concentrate on if they fill an immediate need and what they look like on film, as opposed to who wanted them. Rivals 3* My Ranking. 3*
I coached with one of his assistant coaches in JUCO last year, and talked to him today. He is very high on him, and thinks he will be a great player for us. I'm still a touch skeptical. I see good and bad with him. First, he's a great athlete that fills an immediate need for us . He will definitely help our pass rush, but he's a little undersized. My question is whether or not he will be big and strong enough to be an every down player, or just a 3rd down type guy. We simply can't have a great defense next year (yes I said great) if we can't rush the passer. James could be a huge pick-up for us even if he only helps us in that role.

Marquis McClain. 3*. Yes. No. 4*. Has the talent to Contribute at WR, but will probably contribute mostly on Special Teams, due to talent of other WR's
Big, Physical, Long Arms, and most importantly...catches the football. Probably didn't go to a bunch of camps, but I like the fact Florida really wanted him. Reminds me of one of the Ole Miss receivers, or an Anthony Mix type. He does a great job of creating separation in his routes, which is the key to getting open. He s got good hip bend and flexibility, which can be hard for a taller receiver. Good Pick-Up

Malik Miller- 4*. Yes. Yes. 4*. Will have a limited role on O, but major role on ST
He's not flashy, but he's good. good vision, and a very powerful lower body. He's a grinder. Don't kill me for saying this, but he's kind of a poor mans Derek Henry. I'm not saying he's that good, but they share some of the same attributes. He's very tough to arm tackle, and will be a great football player for Auburn before he leaves. The fact that he's not flashy and signed early, might make him the most under appreciated player in this class.

J Meyers 3*. Yes. Yes. Low 3*. Special Teams
You can't tell how many of his impressive offers are because of. His brother, but he's a solid prospect regardless. He's a little raw right now on the footwork side, but he has long frame which bodes well for the future. Not overly impressive to me, but has frame and raw athletic ability to develop into a good player after some good coaching. I like the fact McGriff seems to really like him.

Landon Rice. 4*. Yes. Yes. 4*. Will be major part of rotation
We have not signed a guy like this that I can remember under Gus. What I mean is, we haven't signed anyone that can block like a true TE with his hand on the ground, and still split out in the slot and demand respect. He can also play the Sniffer or H Back spot in the backfield. He can play all 3 positions. That is extremely critical in the HUNH, because of substitution issues. He gives us the ability to get into pretty much any personnel grouping without subbing. That will prevent the defense from subbing, and that drives defenses crazy because we can go fast as hell. Great fit , and great player.

Prince Sammons. 4*. Yes. Yes. 4*. Redshirt
Great athlete with great punch in his hands. He will have an adjustment period, because he is raw but a very good athlete. I realize the phrase raw, but good athlete is being repeated, so many D1 prospects fit that category. He plays high as a defensive lineman, and it is translating to his offensive game as well. He has really good power in his hands, and will probably be a better pass blocker than run blocker early in his career. I like O-Lineman that are smart, and he certainly cuts the bill. A big key for him will be how well he handles the weight he will have to put on. If his body responds well to the increase, he will be a really good OT.

Elijah Stove. 4*. Yes. Yes. High High 4* I want to say 5*, but it's hard to dominate at 170lbs. Return man and Huge offensive role.
Hopefully this is our Percy Harvin, and is as good as we all thought trogon Reed would be. Great explosion, speed, and quickness. A guy like this can be a nightmare for opposing defenses. His elusiveness will allow him to line up all over the field and hopefully be used in a number of creative ways. It's obviously a huge advantage for an offense to have a guy that can house it at any time, and this guy can. He's small, so his athletic ability better be superior to everyone else's. I believe his is. Hopefully he's returning punts next year as well. I'm ready for another punt returner that teams are scared to kick to. Stove has that kind of ability.

Tre Threat. 4* Yes. Yes. 4*. Part of rotation, and Special Teams nightmare.
Athletic enough to play outside, but is made to play inside. He plays downhill and would much rather go through you than around you. We have not had that in an ILB in a long time. He reminds me of a typical hard nosed UAT LB. He has really good instincts and he's physical. Both are a must for an effective ILB. Again, we haven't had that in a good while . Would not surprise me to see him get a good bit of playing time next year.

Daniel Thomas. 2* no. No. 3*. Special teams
Our coaches would have rather had Nigel, but are sincerely excited about this kid. Good hard nosed player that is a very good athlete. Word is he's a very smart player as well. He will have a chip on his shoulder, and that's a big big deal to me. Just having good old fashioned football players in your program makes you better. He what's the chance to be a productive football player, and might even help in the return game at some point. I would be interested in Mattertime 40 opinion if him as well.

Tawshawn Manning- All I can say is that I couldn't care less how good he is , and will be praying for him and his family.

John Franklin III 4* 4*. Starting QB
Our most important recruit and it's not even close IMO. I have coached with nick Marshalls Juco head coach, and I've coached against JFIII. I'm very familiar with him. He is different than Nick, but can have the same type of impact. Nick had all the intangibles to be a great QB. We will just have to wait and see how JF stacks up in that department. JF is much faster than people realize (Corey Grant fast). JF is similar to Pat White, but is taller and faster. He has a lot of arm talent as well. He can do things very similar to Nick that you simply can't coach. Simply put, he has the ability to be outstanding in our offense, but it will come down to intangibles. Time will tell.

Given the circumstances, I can't believe we signed such a great class. I'm 38, and I don't ever remember us signing a WR or DL class this good. Time will tell I guess. Again, JMO, but with an assist from a coach that judges talent for a living. Players receive rankings for a lot of reasons, and I personally think Rivals does a good job with them. However, the key evaluation tool will always be linked to what schools have been recruiting your signees. Judging by that criteria, this is a damn good class.
Forgive the spelling etc.

This is what I was thinking, depth on defense was an issue, so very few red shirts on the line.

And also, JF3 WILL play Qb. I think the JF3 bet needs to happen. A few people here still saying he will be a WR.

He will, and he will start.

He's the only dual threat quarterback on roster that's possibly ready to play in the SEC. Jeremy Johnson is done unless injuries happen. Sean White could be great in another scheme, but he doesn't fit this one well and we are questionable at wide receiver. The offense right now is similar to what it was in 2013. Great running backs, great athlete at quarterback. Let's run the fricking ball down people's throats again.

This is awesome. I hope they do this every single year. It is nice to have a true breakdown from some guys who do this for a living and don't have O&B glasses on.

I am ready for the season to start now. War Eagle!!!

Not a huge fan of how this guy basically said every player was better than his ranking.

A bit homerish

My bet is in another thread. I do appreciate the break down. While I think it is a bit much sunshine pumping, it is nice to see.

well, fwiw, we did have (I believe) 8 guys who signed with Auburn that were at some point ranked higher than they were when they just signed.

So it isn't outlandish to believe that several of those initial evals were correct.

Try again.

OL is not going to be near as good next year as 2016. Maybe Kozan can round back into shape, that will help. But we cannot play musical chairs all over the OL like the last two season.

My favorite. 6-5 250. Will be an amazing weapon if used correct. Greg Olsen like

I would argue that we have talent, but it'll be hard to be as good as we were in 2013.

Alex Kozan, Braden Smith and Austin Golson make up a very good interior, but we need to find some tackles to start.
