quote:Yes but being the negabarner & star gazer you are you would have bitched up & down the board about his recruiting. He only had 1 or 2 top 10 classes & had 1 as low as the 30s. The average was in the 16-22 range.
Tubs gave us one of our most sustained runs of success in program history and 2004 is as good as anything any Auburn coach has done, ever.

Nobody ever said constant bitching had to be logically consistent. Some people are just addicted to being pissed off. No matter what, they'll find a way to stay in that constant state of existence.
Do you think AU can flip Brodarious from UT?

True. But Tubs never lost basically hisentire passrush when one DE got hurt

That's not right. His early 00s classes were top 5. Now, you can say he had a hard time getting top players qualified, but recruiting was only an issue until after Saban was hired.

Just a quick look at cbstats.com (2008 was as far back as it goes):
2008 sacks - 21
2014 sacks - 21
2008 QB hurries - 49
2014 QB hurries - 85

YAY scoring 14 points per game!

We do when there is a recruit in Miss that we want... the pool is small to start with and we still get a top guy from there every year or so.
We have signed 2 players from the Mississippi since 2011; those were Whitehead and Deon Mix, neither of which were top players through both 4stars.
We signed 4 total players from Mississippi since 2009-the two above, Shon Coleman and Daren Bates

It's possible we were top 5 in 1 of Rivals or scout in 2001 but we don't know for sure because neither site shows their pre 2002 rankings. Here's the rest of Tub's team ranking resume for his AU career using the composite

2002-16
2003-16
2004-29
2005-18
2006-11
2007-10
2008-24
Average-16.2
quote:I never said it was an issue. I was replying to Randy. If you know his posts you know he would have complained about most of the above classes.
recruiting was only an issue until after Saban was hired.
Reality is Tubs was a solid recruiter but very good at player development. Something we have lacked in areas the past 7 or so seasons.

Everybody, including Saban, has a tough time winning battles in Mississippi. We do recruit their its just hard to get quality in staters away from Ole Miss & Miss St. Not worth worrying about IMO. Plus historically the overall talent level in Mississippi isn't great & I don't think it's ever been a top 10 talent producing state. That's why the Rebs & MSU have been who they are through history.

It's funny to me that people even complain about not recruiting very well in MS. Even though Ole Miss/MSU aren't that successful on the football field, the state is very passionate about their programs. Just like AL, MS doesn't have pro teams, so the kids grow up fans of the in-state schools most of the time due to living in a bubble. Talent concentration aside, it would be like other SEC schools complaining they don't recruit AL well.

A few recruiting notes.
BMatt echoed what Keith said in that Jonah W. was not a priority for AU. He says that was a mistake & I'm sure most of you agree.
FWIW JLee said Bro-Hamm tried to commit to AU 2 times but we said no. He finally got the message & committed to UT today.
BMatt said AU did not want EJ Price due to attitude concerns.

No, this board and tRant have come to a crossroad. Much like with the cool kid in HS, who is always partying, fizzles out after graduation and isn't heard from again, an Intervention in badly needed.
That, or people who do nothing but complain and/or call-out others, can grow a pair.
AUF has fewer problem children...

A few weeks late but Kendrick Doss is transferring from Ole Miss. I remember us looking at him at Qb/Safety. Apparently he couldn't crack the qb depth chart per Freezus so cudos to our staff for passing on that

My calendar says April, maybe folks should calm down and have a beer.

We sure were moving in the "sustained run of success" direction right there at the end!
You're right, he wasn't ready to compete with Saban at that juncture of his career. Frankly, the way it all played out I doubt there is a coach in America who could have put up much of a fight against that wave.
But to let that discredit the success he had during his tenure, and act like he had no idea what he was doing on the recruiting trail, shows a real lack of awareness.

Or until the season we tried to go behind his back and fire him. Not a coincidence a lot of those were the kids who would have been seniors/upperclassmen in 07-08 when the wheels fell off.

I don't want to go negatiger, I still have faith in our coaching staff that they will pull it together like they usually seem to do, but it just worries me that this many people who are ready to commit are being turned away this early, especially at a position of big need.
