Do you believe that E? I know it isn't your opinion, but that just seems far fetched to me.

There is no rankings for the early 00s. Those you listed were retro after rivals was started. Also, the mid 00s rankings were the early stages of the modern day sites. No camps, and not as accurate as it is now. Tubs recruited, and well. He took Ronnie from UT, and Caddy as well. His line and DB recruiting was second to none. Tubs made a lot of mistakes toward the end, and a lot had to do with his wife. I worked at the plainsman during this time, and heard about a ton of stuff that was going on.

ETA:

And that's not even talking about the job he did after the failure that was Terry Bowden. I don't see how any AU fan can say anything negitive about Tommy. He laid the foundation that put us at the top of college football.

I don't want to go negatiger, I still have faith in our coaching staff that they will pull it together like they usually seem to do, but it just worries me that this many people who are ready to commit are being turned away this early, especially at a position of big need.
look at it this way. Yes not going after Jonah may very well be a mistake. If EJ really had attitude issues & did so while on his AU JR Day then I have no problem w/ the staff moving on from him. If the staff really does see Bro-Hamm as a tweener or more of a guard they were not completely sold on then there is no reason to take the kid. You don't take kids just to have someone, especially 9+ months away from NSD.. You try to get what you believe are the best prospects available.

Also, I have seen Gene post this countless times, other than a few outliers a year most quality tackles are not known or identified til the Spring evaluation period that just started or Summer camp curcuit. If we get to mid July after these evals & national Summer camps & don't have an idea what the staff wants to do @ tackle in this class then we can start to be concerned IMO.

Yes there was. Both Rivals & Scout started in 1998-1999. I remember when they started & looking at their rankings back then. I promise. They just don't publish what they had before 2002 for some reason.

Possible but very hard to quantify that right now to make it more than opinion.

Respectfully disagree. He took a lot of kids most programs wouldn't & developed them which means it was his player development that was so good.

You can like someone and be real about them too. I was working in the ticket office & met him a number of times. He is a great guy. There has been nothing negative said about Tubs in this discussion or analysis. He is a solid recruiter. I was taking playful jabs & Randy living the nega-life. You appear to be taking the Tubs part of that personally which you should not because it is not personal at all. Randy knows he would be complaining about those AU classes & that's why he didn't reply to my post pointing that out.

Just because you keep repeating this; doesn't make it true. Go look at the commitment dates of our OL class last year. And please don't try to tell me that because most were interior that it somehow means that they were therefore "identified earlier" LOL. Bailey Sharp COMMITTED on April 19th 2014 and he is a Tackle.

You need to watch your tone when speaking about Mr. Shape. He will be a 4 year starter at LT for our scout team.

Sorry you can't handle a little negativity. I came here from Auburn Eagle/AU Family because things weren't always sunshine and rainbows here. We don't need to have the same thing here.

Everytime someone commits somewhere, we have an excuse for it. We aren't going to get all of the prospects we want. We screw up sometimes. There's no need to come up with why we didn't want him.

That's all I'm saying.

I never complained about our classes except for Jetgate, not Tubs fault, and after Saban took over.

Of course I was brushed aside a "negatiger" then too and told to "trust the coaches" blah blah blah.

It's usually not hard to see what's going on if you can take off the blinders long enough to look.

If Meta's around no. The rest of us can have civilized mature discussions w/out attacking or degrading people.

We don't know because we didn't have a board then for you to post on. However, given your constant complaining about last years class I find it extremely hard to believe you wouldn't have gone ape shite over Tubs classes, especially the ones that finished below 11.

If you came over, and are referring to the transition, as I, and others did, then you are correct.

However, much like this board has changed, so has AUF. As long as you avoid the Political Forum, you can find some good discussions.

Yeah, I know you weren't being negitive. It really wasn't directed at you. There is a fraction of this board who never gives Tommy credit for what he did at AU. I was just making a point before these guys chime in.

People seem to forget that we aren't consistently an elite program, our "in state" advantage is only about a 50 mile bubble around Auburn and we don't have any distinguishing attractions like say a quality nightlife.

Put it this way, here is a list of the 9/13 teams who have had consecutive 10 win seasons more recently than us.

South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Bama, TAMU, UF, UTk, Mizzou,

We definitely screw up in recruiting and our coaching staff isn't perfect by any stretch on roster management, but let's not pretend like we should bring in top 5 at every position group. We do pretty well considering our situation

Tub's put two shitty coaches in charge of running their shitty version of offense, said offense being FULL of 1st round draft choices, said offense that produced shite.

But, no, that wasn't Tub's fault... nooooooooo.

If we hadn't of hired Muschamp our class would have been really poor.

As much as he helped we still missed big time at two critical positions. DT looks like an area we can make up for this go round if we can get Jackson and Rochester but missing Ivey and Valentine and blowing it with all these OTs so far this year is going to hurt us one day unless we figure something out quick.

Tubs had a track record of success and also the rest of the SEC West wasn't recruiting at nearly the level they are now so it wasn't as imperative. 11 then would probably be good enough for second in the West most years, now it would be 4th or 5th best.

Nobody is going to argue that. 2003 was by far Tubs worst coaching job. However, he proceeded to win 33 games over the next 3 seasons.

Gus was every bit as disappointing last year, are you going to hold that over his head forever and disregard everything else he may do for Auburn?
