everyone always wants the ace recruiter or the guy who is a house hold name to coach

i've always said i want someone up and coming that is huntry and still has something to proove.

Look at Shannon and Pittman. both were provoen, both gave less than a shite once they got here. they got their checks, and did as little as possible.

in the end i want from an up and coming school with a chimp on his shoulder who is going to put in the hours o make the best unit he possibly can.

I'd go and get Todd Orlando as my Defensive Coordinator / linebackers coach, Mark Ivey as my defensive line coach

I agree. If I was hiring a coach this year, and I couldn't get a truly elite name, I would go after PJ Fleck. That dude is going to be extremely successful wherever he ends up because he knows how to sell a program and is a good head coach to boot.

First, I never like us losing games and I agree that our O Line is a glaring problem. Our defensive also suffers from a lack of numbers, especially at LB and Safety.

But, we've lost to what might be the two best teams in college football. There's not much doubt about Bama and we'll learn more about A&M as the season progresses.

We weren't as competitive as I'd prefer in either game, but both those teams are good enough to fully exploit our weaknesses.

All the disadvantages of getting kids to Fayetteville are BS in my view. The bigger issue really is the number of D1 prospects this state (and especially Central AR) produces.

I'll continue to support a coach trying to build a PROGRAM and largely doing it the right way. I do believe we're making progress and losing to top 5 teams isn't going to totally discourage me from that.

Ole Miss, LSU and Auburn should be our measuring sticks. Winning 2 of those 3 would be very good. Let's see what happens.

i'm not reallly all that fricked up about losing the 2 games. they are better teams with better players.

when i see players in our secondary get trucked by a redshirt freshman, that to me is cause for a concern. that should not happen Mountain West Schools, let alone an SEC program that prides itself on being physical

i'm also going to go on recrod saying that this year's freshman class will be the one that takes us to the next level. Whaley, Hammons, Agim, Capps, Kelly, Jones, etc.

I haven't listened to a single post-game interview or any of Bert's pressers.

I don't like being lied to.

I read his comments in the paper today about the defense being out of alignment, making the wrong reads, not getting off of blocks etc. Seems like he was parroting all of my gripes about Brooks Ellis' play the last 3 years.

I don't understand how this is an issue for major D-1 college football teams. Aren't these supposed to be elite level football players and coaches?

So, as with just about every year in the SEC West, we aren't close to competing with the top teams in our division? How is that not an indictment of where we are as a program. There are top ranked teams in our division every year. There always will be. Saying that's some kind of excuse is pretty stupid or an admission that you think our being able to put up a fight against teams like that is outside of your expectations for the program. That's fine, but some of us would rather we keep rolling the dice with occasional change instead of just accepting our fate.

People aren't mad just because we lost to two good teams. It's that we've been told for four years Bret is building the program the right way and once he has time to build our depth we'll be a good team. Year 4 and we have a patchwork O-line and defense and most of our defense graduates which means next year will be even worse.

What's next to look forward to? Winning 6 games next year and then breaking in a new QB in 2018?

It comes down to the "all-star" recruiters that were on the staff were less than stellar.

Pittman didn't recruit at the level shown on paper, Shannon didn't bring in the type of guys from FL that they were said to be. The % of busts from these two has led to the issues of this team, why its showing up in year four is simple, there were other glaring issues with the balance of the roster that also had to be addressed both position and class wise.

Every situation isn't the same, that's why "x amount of years" time wise is dumb, that assumption is reliant on the next staff taking over a non-fricked up situation which will happen for the HC after Bert and Mike, but both took over rosters with many issues on and off the field. Both have had to work to restore Arkansas's image, Bert less so, Mike has had to try to make the program relevant in the eyes of younger people while rebuild the program at the same time.

You can mock it all you want, but Long had a much longer timeline than the fan base for each to meet performance goals on and off the field, both will leave the programs in much better shape overall than they found them if they were both fired today.
