I think he's referencing a UofA policy. Per Reddit:
UA Systemwide Policy 405.6-"an employee who has been dismissed for cause...shall not be eligible for re-employment within any University of Arkansas System’s campuses, units or divisions".
I'm sure we would find a way to finagle that if we wanted him, though.

See HogX's post. It's been posted here and discussed elsewhere several times before. It's not like I wouldn't want Petrino back here but it's a legal/school issue.

That makes sense, but like you posted, they would find a way I’m sure.
Everyone posts that but no one ever showed the rule. I figured it was just a Jeff Long, he is not welcome here thing.

Firing him for cause meant he was not eligible to receive his buyout.
I do not think he ever challenged this justification for firing.
He is past his prime, ran Louisville into the ditch, steady decline at Missouri state, and Aggy is the same with him as they were without him.

This. I don't understand the continuing fascination with Petrino coming back, sure we were great those two years but he's crashed and burned (no pun intended) since then.
He's been a different man after the wreck and lost a lot of his fire/intensity. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with the fact that he had to humble himself greatly after that to even have a chance at staying in the business, and his perfection-demanding assholeish-ness is a lot of the reason he was successful.
The guy isn't who he was in 2010-11 anymore. See his every stop he's made since then as reference. I'm not even sure we would still be talking about him now if he had never wrecked here and stayed, his next classes were nothing like the loaded in-state lucky classes he had to work with coming in.

Because just like Sam Ace Rothstein, he can pick winners.
He still calls a hell of a game, I believe the problem with aTm is they went for stars over people that worked together and until they fix that it will be a clusterfrick.

The media did an absolute hatchet-job on Petrino, and I agree he's not the same guy he was before they ripped him apart.
There have been other alphas who did as much or more than Petrino over the years, but the likely difference is they made more friends than they did enemies.
Petrino had to learn the political lesson the hard way, and he stands as an example to others.
