It's in MMFG's court right now.

Lets see what happens.

A lot of thought goes in to leaving your home for so long

What did I miss? Went to bed at 10, had a few text messages when I woke up but this board looks like it had a lot of activity.

Man, I feel old.

Yeah, I went to bed at 11 EST and felt good about Petersen, then all of a sudden I wake up and people are melting down and losing it. Ready for this whole deal to be over for sure. Also, I really hope its your guy, Hawgeye.

I've been consistent in saying I thought it was never Petersen

Me too. And for gods sake I hope it's over today and we're all celebrating. I wonder how many times I'll refresh this page today- 11 million?

Well if it's Gundy we can go ahead and start another preliminary coaching search because he'll probably be gone in about 3 years. We all recognize the need for defense in this league and we're going to hire a guy that literally does not watch his own team when they're on defense. He just sits on the sideline working on the offense with his back turned to the field.

Yes you have and if your connections are correct, I'll be very happy.

I'd be happy with Petersen too.

There are a few candidates that I could get excited about, and Gundy is one of them. It doesn't matter who is hired they will need to put together a top notch staff.

If you are correct about the coaching situation I think you might become the official go to guy with sources.

After Johnelle I'll just about take anyone, but I'll agree to disagree with anyone that finds Gundy to be more than a ho-hum hire.

He's an 8 to 9 win coach in the SEC, in my worthless opinion. Another Nutt, with maybe an additional bell or whistle.

If this job has been open since April and GUNDY is who we end up with, I can't help but feel he wasn't option #10 to #15 on our priority list.

That's really not the goal to be "that" guy

I've just always shared what information I get, whether it be this or other things.

Gundy wasn't my first choice, but I didn't really have a first choice. Not one name during this search has really gotten a reaction from me. Thats why i was hoping for someone from the NFL we didn't really expect. (not gruden)

Just seems like a very, very underwhelming hire.

When Petrino was fired in April I'm not sure if anyone was foaming at the mouth for Gundy and given 8 months to work with, this seems like a hire that could only be justified by pointing to how bad things could be with a JLS type of HC.

I don't think many think it was that realistic back in April.

As in Gundy would be too good of a hire?

Because I would say in April that it would be unrealistic, in the sense that he's just another average to good coach that we wouldn't even want to consider.

Average to good coaching at Arkansas = 7 to 9 win seasons

Absent a monster hire (like Petrino was or Petersen would be), we will not compete with the LSU's and Bama's of the world.

If Gundy could compete with the Bamas and LSUs of the world he would have had ZERO problem with the much lesser OU's and UT's and would have 5 BIG 12 championships by now.

He's just very blah in my opinion.

Maybe that was Long's plan from the start. Let us wallow in a shite season so any hire seems like a Godsend. I don't really believe this, but i bet it would get 15 pages if posted on HiV.

Gundy's not my first choice, but when has OSU been more competitive than they are right now? Under Jimmy Johnson? no. Under Les Miles? No.

Gundy has done better than either of these two "elite" coaches. I think he'd been fine here with a good d coordinator, and a helluva lot better than Houston Nutt.
