We need to recruit better. Plain and simple.

I dont want to hear the we are in a bad location anymore. Tennessee and Ole Miss have built competitive teams. Auburn plays second fiddle to Bama and is probably the 5th or 6th choice in their region and look at the team they have.

We pay these guys millions and our recruiting is garbage. We need better recruiters on staff.

You may not want to hear it but it's 100% true. All three of those teams are in significantly better recruiting grounds than us. Our location will always be our biggest detriment when it comes to recruiting.

I don't dispute that, but I'll also contend that we're also blanketed by states - Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Mississippi - that produce a significant number of SEC and P5 players.

We're basically in the same situation as Oklahoma, sans the history.

And yet Oklahoma is a perennial top-10 team

Tuscaloosa:
54.09% White
42.73% Black or African American
0.16% Native American
1.49% Asian
0.02% Pacific Islander

Baton Rouge:
40.8% White,
50.4% Black or African American
0.5% Native American
3.5% Asian

NWA:
89.70% White,
1.22% African American
1.53% Native American
1.19% Asian
0.29% Pacific Islander

Protip: Get used to mediocre recruiting, I doubt even Saban could recruit top 15 classes here.

But we aren't the same as OU. They're much closer to Texas, play completely different competition and have that whole history thing. It's not apples to apples.

I didn't say it was apples to apples, but they're in the same situation regarding proximity to talent and lagging in-state recruiting fertility. They've got to go outside their borders regularly as well in order to stay competitive.

Their answer to having to recruit Texas isn't to hire a bunch of connectionless coaches with Big Ten track records who've never set foot in an SEC stadium.

I couldn't agree more. Bret is going to have to bring in better football players or Long will be forced to replace him. We got destroyed on national TV. We sucked at every facet of the game. The team looked like they were just going through the motions. That's the first time that I've seen one of Bret's trams quit. If nothing changes then we're going to be just as bad next season. We're in trouble until we recruit better players.

This is the problem with our fanbase. We always have a BUT.

The University of Oregon doesn’t have this problem.
Eugene, Oregon
88.15% White
Asian,1.25%
Black or African American 0.93%
Native American, 0.21% Pacific Islander

They also don't play in the SEC. We looked great in the SWC and probably would look better than now if we were in the Big 12.

If you haven't noticed Oregon also sucks without Chip Kelly.

They are soft as it gets this year. Not having as much success pulling the top players out of the LA area.

We would've gotten beat at least 4 or 5 times last year in the big 12 and at least 3 or 4 times this year. Don't kid yourself. Why is Houston better than us then. Do they recruit better?

Houston just got blown out by SMU lol

You can't compare midmajor teams (which is basically what the AAC is) to a team that plays in the SEC

Oregon being good is a very recent thing. Tell me about Oregon before (and after) Chip Kelly.

We will have to catch fire and hire a coach that is a top 5 playcaller that can win with 3 star talent.

If you really want to compete, tell Bert to move on and hire Chip Kelly. Otherwise try to find a diamond in the rough or keep on keeping on.

Or move to the sec east...

Arkansas has never been a recruiting power. The players just have to be developed..

But we could have better classes if Bret would take the thugs and problem children.

Trying to do things right has it's disadvantages I reckon.
