They also have a picture of Dak after our game and a tweet congratulating him on throwing for 500+ on us

If we play in Memphis again can someone for the, Love of God, tell whoever is in charge of transporting Tusk to use a damn heated\closed trailer.

Can't believe that they froze the last one to death taking him back up I40 in an open trailer (or so the story goes).

I am just now getting feeling in my fingers and toes from the last Liberty bowl. I said some very unkind things about Alex Tejada that cold night.

Yeah, remembering the Liberty Bowl and the "supreme cold". LINK

LOF'inL.

Maybe someday we'll have a good enough record again where we can get back to Orlando or New Orleans. I mean some of these teams get to play in exotic venues like Boca Raton and places like that and those teams aren't that good. Yeah I know there are allegedly no seedings anymore as far as the SEC tie-ins go but my guess is we'll need to have no more than 3 or 4 losses to get to a decent bowl. Our default mechanism seems to be a bowl in Memphis or Shreveport because historically they always seem to be in the discussion when we become bowl eligible (outside of a really good season) whether we wind up going there or not. You know those places are close, easy to get to, they get to sell a lot of tickets, blah, blah, blah. But at least we had the Texas Bowl last year thank goodness and I enjoyed that one.

I like Memphis okay, been many times, and we have family living in the Metro area we visit but it just isn't my choice destination for a bowl game/vacation with a child out of school over the holidays, you know, someplace you might want to go and stay for a few days. I guess I could wander around the new Bass Pro Pyramid for a several hours as I haven't been able to see it yet. But I'll probably be elsewhere watching on TV. Oh well.

so, we see the Bing and moaning about the Liberty by a few of us on here. Hey, its allowed.. all opinions are allowed.

So now my own thoughts again.

1. Great time for a game, Saturday 2pm... Prime spot.

2. For those of us who aren't doctors or lawyers, who would love to go to a bowl game, Memphis is a much less expensive alternative for travel costs, and rooms, tix, etc.

3. Recruiting in the Memphis/TN area would or could be huge. The Memphis metro area has produced the second-most SEC signees among cities with an SEC-affiliated bowl since 2006, and Arkansas has a strong alumni and booster base in the city.

4. Turnout... tickets purchased, attendance. I just really don't want to see a half filled buffalo wild wings/outback bowl again. Our travel to those bowls.. or the first one wasn't very great. And, yes I was there.

5. Memphis offers a decent mix for music, nights out, etc. Beale isn't Bourbon.. but it isn't the rivermarket either...

6. Hopefully the Memphis Grizzs would be in town, haven't checked.

Texas bowl last season wasn't bad. wound up sitting in a corner club suite area with several past players, food, drink, etc. The stadium is much nicer, etc than the Liberty. We were chosen for it in a back room deal to play Texas although our record was less than this season. Yep, over other games...

And for those whining about being stuck in the Liberty bowl too often. Geeze, get out the history books.

The Razorbacks have played in the game four times, most recently in January 2010 when the bowl had its second-largest attendance for a game between Arkansas and East Carolina.

Now we will probably wind up in the Belk, or Music City. and I would go to at least the Music City... Belk.. Probably not! But, the Liberty isn't a bad venue for a bowl game. But I love outdoor games... WPS!

The only negatives I can think of about the liberty bowl is the temperature.

The players get some cool swag. A set of ratchet wrenches and free windshield wipers for life.

In this thread and others you've been doing some pretty intense lobbying for having us play in Memphis. Are you sure you wouldn't have a hot dog or funnel cake stand present at the stadium to derive a little income from the fans?

I remember this being the selling point last time, all the upcoming recruits watching practices, etc.

Then we go on to sign some of the worst recruiting classes post Hatfield filled with none from the Memphis area...

Yeah I think you always hear that kind of thing and it sounds good but there is really nothing to it. I doubt a team playing in a bowl or city in some particular region causes potential players to actually choose to play for that school to the exclusion of others. I've certainly never seen any empirical evidence to support it.

If that theory is true, wouldn't playing in Florida yield us as many recruits? And all of these games are televised in any event.

Let me continue my pitch for my hot cocoa stand...

Yes and No! If a recruit is already considering a few teams, and that said team happens to hold practices in his area for a few days, getting to build a more sound relationship would definitely help. ANd Memphis does have some good football, especially the outskirts of the city.

And, yes the point with florida would make sense, except there is a huge difference in travel, to see Jr. play for the hogs from talahassee and Memphis. Duh!
