quote:how many times in the history of football at any level, has a coach done as poorly as bert has, ever miraculously started winning down the road. By year 5, it is what it is. Bret will never be a successful coach here if he coached 20 more seasons.
so the question jeff must ask is 'are berts short comings as a coach sufficient to warrant a firing, or is there enough there to give hope of success here in the near future'

This is the answer. I have went back and looked at most great coaches. They can suck humungo dick the first couple years, but by year 3-4 there is a 9-11 win season. Bert had an 8 win season in 2015 with an nfl offense. Almost every player on that starting offense has made a roster or is starting in some capacity at the next level.

I think it took Joe Paterno like 15 years to win big at Penn State. But when he won big, he won back-to-back national titles.
That is an exception to the norm, though. The best coaches in the game will show their stuff in year two, mostly. Maybe not go undefeated, but have some big wins. Give people a glimpse of things to come.
Look at Fuente. Overcame a 24 point deficit in the bowl game in his first season with VT.
Look at Campbell. Beat Texas Tech and their air raid offense 64-10 in his first year. TEN POINTS for Kingsbury.

Paterno went undefeated his third and fourth season. Frank Beamer is a good example though he didn't win more than six games until his seventh season with some real bad seasons.

Hmm. I don't know why I was thinking about Paterno.
