Why? We don't even have a WR coach opening in the first place.

Beaty made $358K We pay M. Smith 275K.

If you're giving guys raises to keep them, you act fast to lock up guys you want to keep/need to keep.

I'm not happy about the on the field progress of the WRs outside of Keon Hatcher over the last part of the season. Smith has done well recruiting Louisiana for us where we've never really made in roads in the past.

We definitely need a presence in S. LA.

Chaney should've been the backup backup backup plan

I think Pittman was the main goal of getting Chaney.

Why?

They are not tied to the hip, mainly because of narrow door openings.

I think so too. We just need to find a way have Chaney leave and keep Pittman

I think it's ridiculous if true. Why pay a guy $550K to get an OL coach you're paying $300K to, and then have to bump him up to $500K to keep him from Saban's crew of assassins.

When Bielema took the Arkansas job I don't think there was much of a market for OC's. The best ones at good programs were too pricey and looking to get a HC job soon. For a guy having success and looking to get his own show, it's better to stand pat and keep impressing until the right job opens up.

I can understand why Chaney's background would have been attractive to Bert, but he really is water and oil to what Bert wants on offense. I think with some better playmakers and a QB that can throw accurately and make reads Chaney's style can be hard to handle for DC's. There were a lot of good things we flashed, but the asinine and predictable stuff along with his lack of recruiting and limitations in teaching QB skills means we need to find better options.

Not for Arkansas, it was no secret of the shite show the roster was.

Bert thought Chaney could use the QBs and WRs on campus to keep things lively until he recruited in a new system.

But ha! That fricker Petrino got the last laugh, there were no WRs or QBs on campus.

It would be like you getting hired to be the Wash state HC, are you going to hire GT's OC or are you going to go after Hal Mumme to be OC until you can get in place what you want to do. Mumme no question right? Now imagine getting there and discovering Navy had a more legitimate passing attack.

Chaney and Pittman are not attached at the hip, if they were there would have been no need to fend of Saban and Bama because Saban would never hire Chaney as OC.

Please let this be true

Smith has not impressed me on any front.

Recruiting, coaching, nothing. Would be happy to see him go.
