Everyone chill, If we are gonna be consistently "good" we have to get to a point where it's a next man up philosophy. Kingsley took a big step forward during the SECt and the NCAAt. He's ready. Williams will be groomed for a bigger role and contribute a lot more. Thompson's minutes should go up and he has a lot of potential. Kapita looks like he has a lot of game and the college weight room/training environment will take care of the pinched nerve thing.
Guards should be much improved. If we've "arrived" losing BP shouldn't be that big of a deal. Qualls will be the ultimate Senior leader and the team will follow his WARRIOR mentality.

He was incredibly important in our path towards reaching the tournament.

absolutely. we wouldn't have sniffed the tourney without his play this year.

that said, maybe he was the security blanket to the rest of the guys this season- they knew they could count on him. with him gone, maybe/possibly/hopefully more guys will step up and we'll have a better overall well rounded team.

[img]I worry that Qualls will be our only legit returning scorer.
[/img]

You've got to hope Bell, Hannahs, Beard and Whitt will add something to the mix. Even Durham.

Not to mention more from the other guys. He's hard to replace no doubt, but we're not going to fall off a cliff as some are suggesting.

Qualls is going to be a force next year driving the lane.

I would just like to know why it's taking them both so long to say yay or nay? Is no news good news? It seems like most that are going to declare announce this pretty quickly.

I think they can come back if they don't sign with an agent.

Something like that..

I think its good news from a program standpoint.

Means our program really offers the guys resources to make the decision and helps them not do anything rash.

Plus I think both were extremely torn between staying and going.

In the NBA draft, as long as you don't sign with an agent you can remove your name from consideration.

I think a lot of people in this thread are seriously under-valuing Bobby Portis.

I wouldn't call it undervaluing, if he was the primary means to success for the team, the team would have been bounced early in the SEC-T and lost seeds in the NCAAs where they would have lost first round.

I say that because while his production (Stats) were solid during the final stretch of the season, his impact in the games was minimal, especially on the offensive end.

What happened during that stretch was primarily Harris stepping up in the production area, he too will be gone.

Jacorey is more than capable to doing what will be asked of him in the press and both ends of the court. He isn't being asked to score 20 a game, he is being asked to hound the shite out of the ball on defense from base line to base line and keep the defense honest from the high post.

This will allow Kingsley, Miles, and Thompson to share the other forward spot without Portis, with Portis there will again be a log jam and complaints of why a raw Kingsley doesn't get more minutes.

We will need one of Miles/Thompson/Kapita/Other to step up and help give Jacorey breather minutes on the bench next season. Kingsley isn't capable of doing what Jacorey is asked to do (Thompson most likely isn't either) and is better suited defending the basket during the press.

I also would not expect much from Hannahs, he is slow of foot on the defensive end and will fill more of the Divor Rimac/Blake Eddins role than the Pat Bradley roll, honestly will likely be more of Guy Whitney type player. We already have a slow defender who can drain a 3 in Bell...

Won't make the NCAA losing 1 player? Geeze man.

It doesn't bother me to have a difference of opinion with other posters. When I'm wrong about the Hogs 90% of the time it's because I've been too optimistic.

I didn't think MA would sign Kapita and he did, so I was wrong about that and I'm sure not worried about street cred or whatever like some of you who seem to draw your self worth from pretending to be experts and many on here definitely follow things closer than I'm able to.

And I certainly wish to be wrong when it's about something that goes the Hogs way like signing Kapita.

But STLhog, if you're going to call me out, try to at least make it look like you're not a no nothing that just clicked over from HiV and get your basic fricking facts straight.

We had 2 senior starters on this team this year. They ain't coming back. And although you evidently think that the guys that played behind them are better than the starters we are losing, I don't agree with you.

And along with those two starters, we might be losing the first All America player we've had in years to the NBA lottery and he was our only offensive presence we had down low with the occasional exception of Harris who is one of those seniors that you think still has eligibility.

We might make the fricking final four next year, I'm just saying that you have to look at what we have coming back and realize that expecting improved play with freshmen replacing seniors and NBA lottery picks is probably not going to work in our favor.

Last 3 1/2 years it's been OMG when does Madden graduate he is so terrible. Now it's a big or even decent loss? It's not, at all. Madden was so terrible for half this season, love him as a Hog, but we aren't losing much there at all, just the truth. Someone like Whitt may step in at the 2 day 1 and be better than Ky.

Harris? Again, meh. Not losing much. Having a 6'5" guy at the 4 sucked, give me Kapita/Williams there. Experience sure.

But acting like we are losing 2 big key seniors is ludicrous.

Portis/Qualls would obviously be a much different issue.

Would be the staff's most impressive job recruiting thus far.

If it comes to be, this would be the best roster top to bottom we've had since 95-96.
