They aren't out to disrespect those who died in combat. It's not their problem if other people illogically come to that conclusion.

Also, right to free speech was not given to anyone by anybody. It is a natural right.

I agree.

This.

I see nothing disrespectful about taking a knee. Its provocative, sure, but its not like theyre turning their backs or refusing to show up while its played.

No excuse for allowing this disrespect at the collegiate level.... those ladies are on SCHOLARSHIP ....FREE COLLEGE because of this great nation.... let them go to any other country in the world and see if they can get their college paid for because of their ability to play basketball. So sick of this crap.... if the country is so dang bad.... LEAVE!!!!!!!!! very simple... otherwise show respect... as for Dykes.... it's his team... these aren't pro athletes. There should be punishment..... I hope the women's team loses all 50 of their fans over this.

I don't feel disrespected because of actions like this. Honestly it's a lot less disrespectful than guys who run indoors at 7:58 am because they don't want to get caught outside for colors.

I find the backlash over this almost surprising, and it isn't just limited to this. Gabby Douglas took a lot of heat because she didn't put her hand over her heart during the anthem, but instead stood at attention (which was authorized until the flag code was modified 4 years ago).

The only knees I care about Arkansas athletes taking are at the end of a football game that we are winning. Having served in the military and coming from a family that has served for generations I respect their right to protest as long as they don't break any laws.

You know that one can easily make this same arguement for those that feel they're so oppressed so here. That line of thought easily goes both ways.

I haven't heard any protestor say anything disrespectful about the military. It's about police killings of minorities but hey whatever fits your agenda

One group is taking a knee for 2 minutes during a song to show they believe there should be changes in policing in America (right or wrong). The other group is calling for people to be fired and players to be punished for kneeling for 2 minutes during a song. If one of these groups should be asking themselves whether they really want to live in America, it should be the second group.

They may not be 'out to', but ignorance is no excuse. It is often said that 'perception is reality.' The perception to the majority of observers is that they are disrespecting their country, knowingly and willfully.

It's just not a well thought out protest.

Exactly. People lose their jobs all the time for exercising their free speech rights. These girls are no different. They represent the state University, but their actions oppose how the majority of Arkansans feel about the National Anthem. If they don't want to stand for the anthem then stay in the locker room. Jeff Long should have a full mailbox today.

It's just a coincidence that Kapernick started his protest after losing his job to a white guy who flamed out of Jacksonville, right?

I'm not really mad that they're doing the whole kneeling thing during the anthem, it's quite the non-issue if you step back and think about it. I'm more just annoyed that these idiots keep thinking this is doing something, or that it actually means something. They just want to feel like a part of the self-righteous club.

It's disrespectful to more than just the military.
This is not about their right to protest, this is about picking the most innapropriate time and place.
The National Anthem is not about police brutality either, so why pick it to protest during?

1. How they are protesting
There are plenty of ways you can bring attention to a cause besides disrespecting one of the most time honored traditions of being an American. I was in the Navy for 12 years. I find it disrespectful, stupid, and in very poor taste to protest in the way these athletes are doing it. The flag and anthem represent all of the Americans who have sacrificed their time, families, and lives to give you freedom. You're a 19 y/o kid who plays basketball and getting a free education at that. How are they being oppressed?

2. Their goals as protestors
What exactly are the goals in this situation? Normally a protest involves a specific issue with a specific goal and a hope that your ideas will be heard. There is no goal for this movement. It has not been well thought out or organized, and I think a lot of these folks are doing it for selfish reasons rather than to enact change.

I have no qualms with people wanting to do a protest, but these players need to do it on their own dime and not on the university's, fans', and boosters'. When they wear the uniform that says "Arkansas Razorbacks", they are representing the university and the state. I guarantee most of the state and the university does not feel the way they do.

That's why Jeff Long, Jimmy Dykes, or anyone above them need to shut this shyt down before it gets out of hand.

Yeah I just don't really know what they expected to come out of it unless they think the whole country is tuning in to an Arkansas women's basketball exhibition game. Not like we've had problems with the police or BLM stuff here.

So how did that work. When the colonists settled here they found a book or something that said now that you are here you have the right to free speech?
