Scooters are a problem in Fayetteville. Those little frickers are clogging up our main roads and are getting dangerous for the people riding them.

Fayetteville needs an ordinance to keep those things off the main highways and to city streets.

Oh and Ol boy wasn't wearing a helmet.

Did you see it happen? Where did you hear the information?

Was he insured?

Can we get any bright insights from alderman La Tour?

Passed by shortly after it happened. Got some info from a local reporter, woman driver didn't see him coming and turned into him and mashed the scooter.

Was Miss Piggy in town?

On a serious note, hope everybody is OK. As for scooter, are we talking like moped? The things with about 50 cc engines?

They are very popular here. The city is very hilly and they are used sort of like bikes would be in a flatter place.

Yep, problem is it's mostly kids driving them and they don't understand how dangerous they are. I see people riding two deep with no helmets swerving all over and it's terrifying.

With just 50cc's that is a great way to ruin an engine

no helmets

I think the 50cc limit means no helmet in most states

swerving

Those things have a hell of a swerve when there are two Olinemen on them.

I hope we encourage more scooter and motorcycle riding around campus.

Arkansas is a small campus and it's a great way for all students and facilty to get around.

Scooters are fine, though I'd wear a helmet, on the back streets of town. Its the main roads where they really start to become dangerous.

Yes, should be required

The bigger issue is educating kids that while it may look safe it is only safe if you know how to operate it. With the 50cc engine it lets the mfg slip under the law. If a state requires drivers ed for a car it should require motorcycle ed for a scooter.

On and around campus I'm fine with, on city streets w/ 25mph speed limits I'm fine with. On the damn bike trail, I'm fine with.

On Hwy 71B/6th St/Hwy 62/Wedington Ave/Joyce I'm not fine with. They clog up traffic, and these college kids ride stupid like they're in a Paul Wall video.

Eventually one of our athletes are gonna get ran over by someone texting or some one that swerves around a car and doesn't see the scooter that's slowing everything down.

There's a lot of fat chicks that ride their scooters to class, they need the exercise, they should walk.

You'd think these guys that were here when Petrino crashed would know the dangers of riding some slizzer on the back.

Got behind some raver looking kids trying to come up North Street yesterday on a tiny scooter. Chick had to get off and walk while the guy basically pushed the thing up the hill. Ridiculous. The real idiocy is that if you have any clue of the geography of the city, you can avoid the North Street hill (which I got really good at back when I was bicycling around a lot).

I don't even like going up that thing in a car. The Township hill is pretty steep, too.
