I aced driving a standard back in college by getting used to waiting at the light on North & College. If you could sit still at that light on North with a loose clutch, you could do anything.

Got behind some raver looking kids trying to come up North Street yesterday on a tiny scooter. Chick had to get off and walk while the guy basically pushed the thing up the hill. Ridiculous. The real idiocy is that if you have any clue of the geography of the city, you can avoid the North Street hill (which I got really good at back when I was bicycling around a lot).

I used to live off Township and did everything I could to avoid the North Street hill while driving. Just for gas savings. Then one day I got a manual transmission and there was no way I was going to be able to sit at the light at North and College. Eventually I figured it out, but I was still able to get to the west side while avoiding both North and Township.

The secret is Sycamore to Ash to Old Wire to Township on the back side of the hill. Or if going further south in Fayetteville, Old Wire to Mission to Lafayette.

Too many transplants not knowing their city. They must not know what it's like to be coasting in the car on Friday trying to make it to work to get your paycheck, to McIlroy Bank, and finally to the gas station before running out.

Truth. Finally figuring it out was a crowning achievement in my life. But I loved looking in the rearview and seeing someone creeping up right on top of my bumper. "Keep moving up buddy, your car is worth more than mine and I'm in a stick..."
