Thank god Beanum is starting. I remember specifically watching Roesler whiff on a sack and being pissed that he was starting.

Brian Wallace is an "or" with Jake Hall??? Wasn't he a D end… man what is going on with Wallace?

Also, I love Ellis, but dude should not be on the field against spread teams… they specifically pick on and abuse him in the short passing game… for 2 yrs now… dude simply can't cover…

Hating on brooks ellis is stupid. Is he the best covering linebacker ever? No.

Would our team suffer without him even against spread teams? Yes

I'm the biggest Brooks Ellis hater in the state, I didn't see him make the glaring mistakes against LA Tech like has the past 3 seasons.

In saying that, I'd rather we play a 3 man front with him as a DE/LB, but if you're going to do that then Randy Ramsey is who play because he can get to the QB where as Roessler/Ellis/Beanum/Winston etc can not.

You're better off playing Wise/Ledbetter/Agim in a 3-4 with Ramsey on the weak edge and Ellis on the same side as Ramsey to provide intermediate coverage and run support.

I'm hoping Rhoads has some coverage tricks up his sleeve for TCU, leaving Ellis to spy on Hill is a recipe for disaster. Gotta use Greenlaw for QB containment.

The chess match between the coaches will be really interesting to see on Sat.

Well this is not good at all. It looks like CB injuries are the new WR injuries.

— CB Kevin Richardson is out for the year with a pectoral injury. Looking at a four-month rehab

— DJ Dean will be back this week. He's listed as the backup to Jared Collins at field corner. Without Richardson, look for him and Henre' Toliver to play a lot of nickel

— Jared Collins had been nursing a back injury, which limited him Saturday. Shouldn't affect him much moving forward.

Austin Cantrell should practice tomorrow. He’s been cleared.

Maybe it's me, but Ellis looked a step faster than he has been the last few years. He was flying all over the field.

Bert will never go to a 3-4 he repeatedly said his first couple years he will always run a a 4-3 that's why he hired Smith... Wanted a very vanilla, simple 4-3 which Smith runs.

I also think a 3-4 would be very beneficial. It keeps Ellis in the middle and he doesn't have to cover, you can get the likes of Ramsey to play outside rush LB (which he is built perfectly for).

Also you can use Bijhon Jackson as your Vince Wilfork type clogger NT. Don't understand why he doesn't want to use multiple fronts to further confuse college QBs.

Recruiting the type of nose guard to run a successful 3-4 in college is extremely difficult. Bijohn would not be the answer there and I don't think we could recruit consistent enough to run it.

we barely had enough linebackers last year to run 4-3. Linebacker is consistently one of our weakest positions.

Why would we want to run an defense that puts more of them on the field at a time?

Don't think we could get enough quality LBs for 3-4. Ellis is a run stop LB and he's really good at it. His draw back is that he doesn't have the speed/agility for coverage.

Glad we got at least two of the three injured players back. Hate it for Kevin Richardson.

Cantrell was a freakin road grader Saturday.

On Williams TD run, Cantrell's man should've had to buy a ticket with the way Cantrell pushed him out of the play.

I would rather us get a little more physical in coverage and aggressively use Ellis reading and blitzing.

Seemed like we did that more late in the year last year.

Wondering if Pulley's stupid out of bounds hit earns him any stadium steps this weekend. That could've lost the game for us considering they were driving and in our territory.

Also nice to Randy Ramsey's name - his sack was pretty impressive and he looked the part. If we're going to play 4-2-5 against TCU, I'm hoping that Ramsey can log significant time at one of the end spots to essentially serve as another linebacker on the field.

Maybe it's just me, but our D-line doesn't seem deep like it was advertised to be all summer. The end positions are manned by Wise (great) and Beanum (good), but the backups are an undersized rush package lineman (Roesler), a converted LB (Ramsey), and an upperclassman with zero career sacks (Winston). Not to mention the fact that both down linemen techniques are backed up by true freshmen. I'm not chicken littling, but that's not a defensive line I'm extraordinarily eager to take into SEC play right now.

It wasn't last year either which is why I personally refused to believe the hype this year.

I think our dline is ok. Nothing to write home about about though so far. Definitely better than last year, how much is yet to be determined.
