Very happy with a win over a good opponent to open the season. Excited to see us next week.

Watching the game in person I was left wondering…are these two good teams going at it or are these two mediocre teams in the middle of a pillow fight. After watching highlights and seeing in person, I go with the former. Cincy had speed all over the field. They had a very experienced and good OL that picked up 90% of what we threw at them. That group may be in the top 2 of OL’s we see this year.

- Offense looked good at times. Need to get more consistent.
- I don’t remember a dropped pass on a catchable ball. (Someone May can correct me)
- Trey Knox has turned himself into a man child.
- Drew Sanders had a nice sack, but for me he was relatively quiet?
- Hope to hell if we have 1-2 guys out for a couple weeks in secondary that we go back to our zone scheme and scrap man until they’re back.
- Cincy WRs are damn fast.
- Cincy will do well in the Big 12
- Our OL looked fine outside of one drive when KJ got hammered twice inside the 20.
- Rocket looked great
- Would like to see AJ get more touches
- Dibinion looked real good
- Concept with Malik at WR looks promising. Cincy just played smart on back end. Will work against some teams this year.
- Gotta get more production out of NT. On plays I made sure to watch DL, didn’t draw too many double teams.
- Lack of deep shots pissed me off but Cincy was playing 2 deep all game to take that away.

That’s all I’ve got for now…sure I’ll think of more.

I told the rant that yes they did lose nine players to the draft but they were ahead by so many points against teams in the AAC that they were able to let the backups get a lot of snaps over the last couple of years.

I looked at the roster and they had redshirt seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen. They able to replace what they lost with good players. They are a power 5 team in a G5 conference.

We won the game, which is all that matters at the end of the day.

That said, our secondary was a huge liability. Similar to the Texas and A&M games last year, a competent QB would have made us pay. That’s the difference between beating a good team and beating an elite team. We won’t play Bama nearly as good as we did last year if our secondary looks like it did yesterday.

Offensively, we miss Dominique Johnson in the running game. Pass pro is also an issue, and WRs seemed to be having trouble getting separation at times.

Like I said, we won the game, but lots of chinks in the armor. We played very bad last year game one and went on to have a great year. We played much better game one this year compared to last, so hopefully we continue that same trajectory.

I agree. Rocket gives you the big play ability but takes a while to build up steam. DJ is more consistent moving the chains.

i'm glad we won.

Offense good-
Offense line i thought did pretty well.
KJ is fun to watch , he's a great QB
Rocket played well most of the time.

offense bad-
WR seperation and deep routes are a concern. we will need this or folks will load the box as we continue forward.

Rocket looks timid at times. he's physical when he arrives but he almost seemed to hesitate at times.

Jefferson is going to be solid but didn't appear to take that step to elite this offseason.

defense good-
that interception was a big part of the win.
we generated presssure at times against a decent OL.

defense bad-
WRs running behind coverage everywhere.
Pressure was not consistent or coming from DL often.

Those are my notes from rewatching the first half. gonna watch the second half once it stops erroring out on hulu.

Our coaching staff has done a great job with the transfer portal. Transfers were making plays all over the field yesterday.

Y’all are overblowing the separation shite. Kendall doesn’t care about underthrown balls he just doesn’t want over throws so he’ll throw some behind the receivers sometimes and that’s ok because we’ve got gigantic receivers that don’t really need as much separation to begin with because they’ll just catch it over you

I'm more concerned that when KJ looked for the deep ball a few times that it wasnt there. there wasn't seperation on the backend enough to even attempt the throw he was looking for. you could defintely see him wanting deep shots that just weren't there.

Cincy was playing to stop the run and to not allow the deep ball. They played two deep all game long. They left the short to intermediate throws open and that’s what we did. We just took what the defense gave us.

We have plenty of speed on the edges IMO and I’m not concerned. I think next week we will see more down the field plays due to how SCar plays defense. They gave up over 200 yards rushing to GaState and I feel like they’ll game plan to drop a safety into the box in run support and play Cover 1 against us. Their DL looked like hot garbage yesterday.

like the OP, I was happy to get the win; offense just didn't look like it ever stayed in sync for too long, but first game and all; i, too, expect more zone going forward; our guys got beat a handful of times;

Tackling in the secondary has to get better. Way too many missed tackles yesterday.

Secondary struggled
We had way too may missed tackles in the 4th
KJ still struggling to hit intermediate balls. Throws the ball either too hard for a guy 10 yards away or at a guys feet.
DJ is a tone setter in the run game. We didn't really have that.
Rashod Dubinion looked better than Green to me
We were very fortunate their QB missed a lot of guys downfield
Receviers struggled to get seperation. Cinn recievers looked like ours should have. Very concerning. No Burks to make big downfield plays.

Looked like a typical season opener to me. There were things that worked and some that didn't.

We beat a ranked opponent and will get better as the season goes on. We just need to get healthy.

KJ completed 69% for 3 TD's and 0 INTS, Rocket over a 100 yards, the direct QB snap after spreading the defense into 5 in the box (blocked by 6 guys) is there all year, and Briles didn't advertise it

Catalon is a safety. He's hardly ever in man to man.

ETA: you're just making shite up because you have no idea what you're talking about, but you love being negative

so 2 deep takes the long ball away better than 3 deep?

you didn't see him "wanting deep shots"

you saw him reading coverages and taking what the defense gives up, as he's coached to do

Holy hell you have issues.

Guns a blazing in a thread that you’ll now undoubtedly run into the shitter…because that’s what you are, a shitty poster.

Let us not have a thread to legit discuss the opening game…

Nope, let’s let Canaan Sandy, aka Harry, come into the damn thread with your sparkly vest on, posting shittastic drivel and taking selfies.

Your 15 minutes are up…and you need a new vest.

No shite Sherlock.

Do you understand the importance of the safety positions and the difference between cover 1 and cover 2?

If you did, you’d understand the post.

So the 21% he missed were intermediate throws? Got it.
