My gut tells me Barnette will start. I think Bateman will share reps with him the same way Coker and Sims did, and we won't have a settled started until 3 or 4 games in. I also think Hurts will get some reps and if he shows out he could take the position.

You don't want to hedge your bet and throw in a "but if Cornwall impresses in the fall he could get in the mix, too" qualifier?

Good point. I think Cornwall could also be starter if he performs well, OR maybe someone we haven't even thought of. If someone we haven't thought of really impresses coaches in practice they might take the position. Bookmark my last two posts and come back in October to praise me for my foresight. Trust me on this, I have connections that will blow your mind.

Batemans problems started his senior year in high school when his team sucked and he got hurt in game 4 and he was done for the year.

As someone who compiled his Senior stats for a Bama site, he played all season.

They changed head coaches, they changed offenses, and a lot of blame was thrown on his supporting cast(despite several having D1 offers).

One week before kickoff, Kiffin and Saban have a closed door meeting. They come out, throw up their hands and say screw it! Hurts lines up in the Wildcat with Damien Harris and Bo Scar behind him and we run option read all year.

Better yet, since we are opening against Southern Cal (anyone remember when they used to be called "Southern Cal"?) Saban closes fall practices and implements the wishbone.

I know we would win a lot of football games with Hurts running a read option scheme much like Tennessee runs but any offense that doesn't feature our elite WR corp will be a travesty imo.

Sorry. Max prep only listed 4 games worth of stats for his senior year. I knew he had a rough one and I thought I remembered it being due to injury. Should have known better than to trust Maxprep.

I think Bateman starts but Hurts sees time in a change of pace situation every now and then.

This isn't an unrealistic expectation.

What's the rule for redshirts on early enrollees? That's the one thing that could keep Hurts off the field. With the potential he's already shown, I can see the staff really wanting to save a year of eligibility for Hurts.

Given that mobility is supposed to be the strongest asset for both of them (thus suggesting similar game plans), if Bateman is the guy I can see Hurts sitting with the intention to redshirt but being the actual #2 guy should Bateman suffer a long term injury or get hurt in a critical game. If you think back to the 2009 title game, there was some question about GMac's health and if he couldn't go AJ was going to be the guy.

Looks like Barnett will be getting married.
