I know Diggs is a DB, but come on man, just get the guy to the ground or push him out of bounds. Stop with all of that strip crap every time.

The whole defense had a chance to tackle Helaire on the first down run that iced the game, but he drug them all across the line to gain.

If we could’ve just made a few tackles (particularly on third down) we could’ve won. Just out-physicaled in that part of the game.

Been going on for a while. Trying to strip the ball and several that like to spin and propel the guy for more yds.

Some avoid contact below the waist and some try to knock people down without wrapping up.

Golding needs to be demoted or let go!! Your defense takes on the personality of the d coordinator and when we had Pruitt and smart we were nasty simple as that.

This is a direct result of the type of offense Bama is now running and our defense practicing against it; Bama is no longer that physical offense that wears teams down, and the defense is weaker for it because they don't practice against a physical offense. Unfortunately, Bama has become more of a finesse team on both sides of the ball.

You don't have to practice against a physical offense to practice tackling and to teach your defense to punish the ball carrier.

Yep.

No matter what O you practice against, you can be fundamentally sound in your technique.

Saban said in his presser today that the Alabama defense missed 25 tackles in the game. Absolutely incredible.

It looks to me like they’re afraid of leaving their feet. In order to tackle someone to the ground, you usually have to be willing to hit the ground yourself..
Whatever happened to grabbing a guy, and then using your full body weight to pull him down?
Right now they’re grabbing guys, and trying to throw them to the ground while remaining on their feet. What the frick is this shite? Maybe it’s all of the “thudding” we do in practice instead of actual full-go tackling. Idk, but it’s weak af

We need to bring back Reuben Foster to teach tackling

Amen. Our guys on defense dont want to go to the ground and get their uniforms dirty. They want to grab the player up high and wrestle with him. And give up 4 or 5 more yards.

Supposedly Saban ran tackling drills in practice yesterday.

You are no better or no worse than your practices. Coach Bryant made that clear decades ago for me. He was asked by a writer why he didn't open up his offense. His answer was because it hurts the defense. If that's what they see every day it becomes their muscle memory and that's what they take to gameday. Thus the old adage, "you are what you practice."

You can also add to that, what happens when coaches aren't good at teaching fundamental football. Welcome to the new Alabama.

Suttles said it best when he said the program has lost its soul. Kind of hard to put a finger on just one thing at this point, but something definitely feels different than it did 2 years ago.

See, I think that this is so dumb. People have such short memories.

2011, and 2012 we had to have some extremely good luck to even get a shot at the NC.

We lost 2 games in both 2013, and 2014. Two of those were double digit losses in bowl games to end the season.

By the time our second straight loss to OM came in 2015, pretty much everyone was saying that Saban's machine was broken, and there wasn't much more success to be had.

Then we went out and won 2/3 NCs, seconds away from 3 straight NCs. Last season we blew out everyone besides Clemson who beat us by multiple scores. We played an awful game. It happens.

and so we just lost a close one to the number 2 team in the country whose offense is historically good, and half of our starting defense is injured, and people are again calling us dead and done?

frick Suttles, and frick that opinion.

Off topic from tackling, but I think Suttles is an overrated Bama reporter. Sure he has some inside info, but his head is about 25x bigger than it was a few years ago. He got an ego once he got the radio show in Birmingham and put all of his content behind The Athletic's paywall. I don't think he has that much more of a feel on the pulse of the team than anyone else who is not an actual member of the program.
