Way too early to say any team is or isn't a championship team.

Please don't use the board as your tampon. This team will be fine, and every week that Bama wins and looks good, I'm bumping this as a lesson for you.
Make sure you bump this after we win the title. Read the OP. I didn't say that we wouldn't win 10 or 11 games. I said that we aren't a championship team.
Here is part of the OP since you must have missed it:

This is not a melt or anything like that. I think that Bama could win 10 or 11 games, but there is no way that we could go toe to toe with FSU or anyone else and come out as the champ.

It's the first game of the year. We can make intpovements and get better. We could even get MUCH better.

To no one in particular:
Feel free to tell someone how stupid their opinions is. And if you're feeling REALLY frisky, you can tell them WHY it's stupid.
Do not, however, try to silence legitimate criticism of the team or coaches.

Our defense looks as weak as I expected.
#3 needs to go

D as a whole didn't even look bad. Just our corners. Jones showed some flashes of competency, but Sylve needs to get John Fulton'd. Then Reggie/Reub can't cover, but everyone knew that.
Get Sylve and maybe Jones off the field, play someone who can cover at ILB vs those teams, and things would look different.

I think missing #33's leadership may have played a more significant role than first thought.

Indeed. No one was thinking 2009 was going to be the year after 34-24 against Va. Tech or 12-10 against Tennessee or 38-20 against Kentucky.
I must have a different memory of 2009 than you do. After we beat a Top 10 VT team, a lot of people were feeling pretty confident.

Finally! Overreaction Week is here!
But, unless we find a QB to stretch the field, the offense will struggle (relatively). WVU's defense is swiss cheese.

I'm not too disappointed. Bama had some players that didn't play today or didn't play very much today, that will be starters by the end of the year and their talent far exceeds the players that started today. They just got to get healthy and get some experience.

i was actually disappointed in our defense. as much work as has been put in to play against the hunh, we still look lost. its got to get better or tex aggs will destroy us.

Seriously. We looked bad against va tech last year too. Everyone calm down
This X 10!! I can almost guarantee that WV is MUCH improved over last year. Give them some credit. They brought their A-Game.
Plus It's only the first game, we were VERY VANILLA on offense and defense... It seems like this happens ALMOST every single year.. We will get better my friend.. .Coach Saban isn't panicking and neither is the team.. We will be FINE!!

This is not a championship team
There's no doubt this is not a championship team. The questions is, can they become one.
Can't argue with this. I'd like to think we will get better every week. I thnk we will be fine for the next few weeks, but aTm will light us up if we don't get better play in the secondary.
In spite of the TD return, I think our kicking game is very solid. I'll feel confident with a game riding on Griffith's foot...hell, it was tonight. It's the first time we've made long distance FGs with the game on the line since before Foster's time.

Bama will be fine. Just have to survive the flurry of drives and have a few stops and allow our offense to control the clock. So what if Bama gives up 400 yards as long as Bama has 1 point more than the opposition when the clock hits zero in the 4th qtr.

For the first game of the season it wasn't bad IMO.
I think this team could be really good by October. I would rather see our flaws against a team like WV and have some time to fix than blow them out and come into the UF game with a big head. Saban's got two games to get them better before their next challenging game against UF.
IMO the last two years Bama peaked a little early. This could be a team that starts the season a little slow, sees their flaws and works hard at being perfect by the time it matters, rather than start the season off good and lose in November again.
Sims did ok. Bama didn't get any respect for long down field passing though. WV's DB's and QB were pretty good too though.
Bama DB's looked young, played to far off the LOS, and showed bad habits and fundamentals, which are fixable.
RB's looked really good.
Oline looked pretty good but will get better.
Dline didn't get as much penetration as I thought they would but they'll get better.
LB's were almost unnoticeable for most of the game.
WR's looked really good all around.
Some suspect play calls, which Kiffin's known for.
Griffin is lights out and can hit from 60 looked to be regular.
I'm mostly disappointed in the DB's though.
It's the first game and Bama's gonna get better so lets enjoy football season's upon us....Roll Tide!

God damn these threads are stupid.
This. Let's not forget that Coker didn't play until there was a minute left in the 4th quater. No, and I repeat NO team looks championship ready in the August. Hell, look at FSU! They're struggling againts a weak OSU team.

There were plenty of people freaking out about the fact we trailed that game going into the 4th quarter.
It's hard to make sure statements tonight. For all we know WVU finishes the season 11-1 and in the playoff. Florida State hasn't looked like world beater tonight either.
Something from Phil Savage to ponder:

I feel the need to remind people that WVU beat OKST last year.

To be fair, it doesn't help when Sylve and Jones just don't cover anyone. And then we keep dropping them back despite all the short, quick throws.
