I think a better way to put it would be, that there's no uniqueness left. You would think that at an university's strip, a place where people love to talk about tradition(s), it would be the last refuge of mom and pop restaurants and unique bars. But everywhere is the same now. Some for better, some worse. I personally hate to see the changes.

That is right, late 80s early 90s the Strip was on fire. No real curfews, except on Sat. Night, then you could always hit the side tracks for a late night early morning disco freak on and the booth always opened at midnight on Sunday.

the strip definitely does not need a drugstore/cvs/whatever ... tho as another poster asked, why hasn't the owner bought it by now? ... he could use what he charges for a shirt as a down payment ...

Pill Consumption is at a high demand. Srsly there are more pharamicies then bars now-a-days. There are more people on Xanax or adderall in that university then people that actually graduate. Everyone is on something.

Today's pharma= tobacco and soda of the 80s combined.

Or Cross the River Club, though that was more mid 90's.

My only arrest was my freshman year in 92 when I walked out of the End Zone after last call with 4 opened beers in my coat pockets and tried to drink them in Quik Snack. Got my fake ID taken as well. Good times.

Apparently Tuscaloosa doesn't care about historic preservation or landmarks. Make the Strip more attractable for college students and tourist. Add more bars, different unique restaurants, fricking do something...This is stupid.

You can pretty much give up on new bars opening on the Strip unless they are simply replacing an existing one. Too many students are under 21, including almost everyone that lives on campus.

too much bama in us... this thread has given me a sad about all the things that have changed from my first visit at 16 and eventually going to school there in the late 90's.

4 - I don't think that Publix has a pharmacy, does it? Plus, you can buy Jimmy hats the CVS without having to worry about granny giving you the stink-eye stare down. This CVS's top two items sold will be beer and sudafed.

5 - Beware of buying drugs from the large-box, high-volume pharmacies. They have a pretty high number of toxic combined drug intoxication (CDI) incidences. They simply dispense so many meds that often fail to catch the potential CDIs, so double-check the

Not sure they were the good years, but in the early and mid-90's there wasn't much of downtown bar scene, so the strip was it. There was Downtown Pub, The Chukker(RIP), Elbow Room for a year or two, and Michael's(gay bar) and they were all spread out. Around 97 or 98 is when Temerson Square started, though I don't remember it being called that. 4th & 23rd and Copper Top were the first 2 down there. Innisfree opened on Greensboro around that time as well, though it may have been around 96.

I have never been to 4th and 23rd, but the Inisfree Irish Pub is nothing but a frat bar. Good food, but insufferable people around you.

It's not about the "pharmacy" these Walgreen's & CVS stores are mini-WalMarts. You can buy school supplies/flashlight/food/detergent/hair dryers/screw drivers/socks/ink cartridge/greeting cards/electrical tape/light bulb/nerf football/beer/icecream/coffee maker/party decorations/panty hose/toaster oven/anti-freeze/Alka Seltzer/surge protector/tampons/extension cords/lamps/duct tape...............

There's a huge open spot right beside the Alabama bookstore. Why not move the Lockeroom there?

Sounds like a great place for a CVS & leave TLR in their red house.

Pretty sure the University owns that lot. I may be wrong though. I know when Whitt was President they bought a lot of those buildings and land, and I want to say they tried to evict Alabama Book Store. It was all in their effort to "clean up" the Strip.
