An image overhaul? Have any of you actually been to the Locker Room?

I could see a campus style Walmart opening there. Arkansas and Georgia Tech have opened them with success. They're basically convenient store size for campus areas like The Strip.

Did you read any of my comment? I clearly stated I haven't agreed with every change that has occurred. But as a whole The Strip needed change.

I got my first real suit there when I was 14 or 15.

It's just become too sanitized now. There's no character.

It won't hurt my feelings losing the Locker Room, because I don't buy their overpriced clothing. However, I hate damn Walgreens and CVS. No need for one there with Publix next door.

The Strip has definitely changed, but not all changes have been bad. I'm fine going downtown to the bars. The better ones are there anyway.

Sure there is. It's just not the same type of character it used to be.

It is becoming more commercial with every change. Kind of sucks for the small guy. Hey remember The Booth, Cheap Shots, The Library, the original Houndstooth and whatever Rounders was called back then? Good times

Agreed. There's cleaning it up, then there's running off all the small, locally owned businesses in lieu of large, national chains.

This isn't all on the University, and a lot of it is just business. But still disappointing to see.

I like the idea of revitalizing downtown with a centralized bar and restaurant district. I fully admit that some of my best memories are from late nights on The Strip, but sometimes change is needed.

I visited all of those establishments as a student, but entertainment districts in college towns are becoming commercialized everywhere. Though I do wish the local flavor had a place too. There's got to be a common ground.

Didn't the University try to run off the Alabama Book Store back when they bought that block where The Booth was and ran them off?

They need to build more things near new row fraternity houses by the Rec fields. All there is, is newks and Arby's with a gas station. Need a bar and a restaurant tuscaloosa doesn't have period go in. Would get a lot of business

The university probably has future plans for that area.

Sometimes I forget that that is what the younger generation prefers. My nephew is at Bama right now and was appalled when I was down there a few months ago and asked if he wanted to grab a beer at Egan's. Don't people smoke in there?, was his response. We ended up at some new bar downtown near Copper Top.

Kids today would have flipped their lid over The Chukker.

Pretty much feel the same.

I never really went to the Locker Room, and I lived right down the street for multiple years, but I do not like the idea of a local store that has been there a long time being moved in favor of a chain pharmacy store. Lame.

You don't know the Strip unless you ate a steamed sandwich from Solomons, did blow at the Varsity or the Tusk, and ended the night at Kwik Snack or Wings n Things.
