I agree with your attitude towards the statues, but I always think this is a lame argument. This money would just be lining some booster or administrator's pockets if it wasn't being spent on the statues. It's not like they take it out of the scholarship fund.

Yes, and finished a distant 3rd. Mariota finished with 2534 points, Cooper finished with 1023.
Only like 12 non-RB/QB players have even finished in the top 10 in the voting since 2009. Since 2000, only 3 non-RB/QB players have finished in the top 3 (Fitzgerald, Teo, and Cooper).
Fitzgerald finished 2nd by 128 points. Teo finished 2nd by 323 points.
Only 2 non-QB/RB players have won it since 1990, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson. Only 3 have won it since 1970.

The only time a player's statue outside of a stadium is acceptable, is when a huge chunk of your entire program's history can be attributed to that one player - as is the case with Michael Jordan, or Cam Newton.
The Heisman is a team award. Period.
It's a no for me.

Statues are silly. It is what it is. Henry and Ingram put the team on their backs at times and worked hard @ the capstone. I don't mind them getting their well earned respect.

Would you say Percy Harvin was the best player for UF in 07 when Tebow won the Heisman?
Almost a decade later, If you asked younger Gator folks to name the most important player of the 2000s. They would pick the most popular, widely known person which is what the Heisman Trophy helps to do.
I agree, that a Heisman Trophy maybe shouldn't be the criteria but lines must be drawn somewhere. Looking at pure performances, Derrick Thomas should have a statue although he isn't a Heisman winner.
