Does he seem to panic or just make bad reads?

Not so much a panic but just AWFUL decisions. Almost like he doesn't see people.

Everybody shits on the upper-classman with experience in the spring. He'll win you over.

Whatever wins I suppose, just wanted someone to step up and be a superstar.

Maybe Bateman is that superstar, but we've been shown time and time again that a superstar is not required at the QB position.

I've been waiting for that game changer at QB for a long time. Who knows how good he will be but he does bring something to the table with his legs. It won't take a Manning to move the sticks with the skilled talent around him. There really are only a couple of superstars that get recruited every year and it's hard to guess who they are gonna be.

I'm not shitting on anyone, I'm just not a fan of his. He had a chance to bring his legs to the table during the Ole Miss game and he was too scared to keep the ball. I saw Kiffin even yell at him to keep it.

What's clear right now is that it's a Bateman/Cornwell battle for now. Hurts--like all freshmen--is talented but needs a year to develop. Was really hoping BB8 would make the leap this year and be the stud he can be, but he is still very young as a RS freshman and has plenty of time left for the light to come on. He may need another year or two.

People tend to forget how talented the older guys were coming out of HS. Bateman and Cornwell were both 4-star, Elite 11 QB's with offers from all over. I'm comfortable with whoever wins that competition while the young guys grow up. They both may play early in the season to see who wins the team over.

Just got off the phone with Bateman. He said he is sorry, he just wasn't ready yet last year. People improve. He asks for you to give him another chance.

I just got off the phone with Spencer Pennington, he said not everyone improves, and to be careful with my second chances.

I'm with cobra. Not a fan of bateman's game. He has a little lady personality. Cornwell and Barnett seem to have more of a sack on them. They're all very young minded in my eyes. Coker and McCarron just carried themselves as grown arse men.

So we hate Bateman now based off of a quarter and change of one game early last year? We hated Sims, then Coker now Bateman. Guess Saban will just have to settle with more hardware with the guys we love to hate.

Hope its cornwell myself. Best arm of any qb we have had at bama since we for here, and is mobile in a coker kind of way

This.

Bateman is the most unlikely hero since Sims. If he is the starter, i think he'll surprise significantly, because he is the least expected to excel.

He gets the tag of.. "the guy that started, otherwise coker would be undefeated as a starter" rap.

I wouldn't write bb8 off just yet either. I believe he's one that comes alive when the lights come on.

BB 8 shouldn't be counted out. Not for his career. But, for this season, I would be shocked if he is the day 1 starter. Every year folks expect ( or hope) the younger guy to win the job. It never happens. Phillip Sims vs McCarron, Coker vs B Sims, anyone vs Coker, and now BB 8 vs Bateman. It will most likely be Bateman. I was hoping he would beat out Coker last year. It didn't happen. Obviously I am glad that is how it went, we won the natty. But we should be better at reading the damn tea leaves at this point. Lol.

Very few people on this board wanted to see Sims get the job because of the shortcomings he displayed as a back-up in 2012 and 2013. By the end of the '14 regular season he was one of the most beloved QBs in Alabama Football history.

I think it petty to hate on Bateman for his performance in the Ole Miss game. He wasn't the only reason we were down 17-3 when Coker came into the game. We had two kickoff returns that were fumbled that both led to Ole Miss points.

Bateman was a 11/13 for 87 yards when he threw that pick. It's not like he was sucking it up hard.

It makes me sick how some people are so hung up over Barnett that they still hope he wins the job even with how shitty he has evidently looked. Heaven forbid another QB be the answer. Cooper Bateman has the experience and the ability and I am sure the players trust him more than any other QB.

After everything that has come out of the scrimmages, you would have to be crazy to want Barnett to start as of right now.
