Is it coaching? Bad evaluations? On paper we have recruited lights out and by all means should literally blow most folks off the ball. Guard play isn't terrible I guess but we should be better than average. The OL isn't helping our young quarterbacks and have underwhelmed the last 3 seasons. How do we fix it? Can we fix it?

They played a pretty good front in game one. Were better in game two. Communication will get there. It can be a very good line.

We've played 2 games. The first was against an elite front and the 2nd they dominated inferior guys.

Not sure how you can make a sweeping conclusion about them yet.

The O-line always seems to take a few games to gel.

We have two really good OL starting right now, Jonah and Bozeman. Our guards are pretty underwhelming, not very athletic and get very little push. Womack is a good run blocker but a little suspect in pass pro.

I'm hoping they can improve but have been disappointing to this point. I honestly don't think we've had a a dominant OL since 2012. This is concerning given our level of recruiting. Either our evals are off, or we aren't developing well. Where are the Warmack and Fluker-like maulers who just open gaping holes for our backs?

Yep.

I hope the coaches will test drive playing Wills at RT with Womack at RG vs CSU enough to get a feel for whether that'll be the best o-line lineup.

Bama played maybe the best front in college football in game one... FSU is eight deep and every one of them will play in the NFL. Thought the the line dominated Fresno State

Disagree. Lot's of 1-3 yard runs, which is pretty sad against a bad team. We should have been gashing them for 5-10 yards a pop. And Jalen had constant pressure in the pocket. Just like he did with FSU. He's had very few clean pockets to scan the field. Like less than a handful of times in 2 games. That aint good for Vandy's OL, much less ours.

Reading what Saban said about their performance is what gave birth to this thread. He thinks OL play is the biggest reason for what we have seen from the passing game the first 2 games. Said receivers get open for the big play but Jalen simply doesn't have time or a comfortable pocket.

In regard to the offensive woes, I'd say it's

1a. Jalen
1b. O-line

Have you watched any of the NFL games this season?

Offensive line play has been horrendous everywhere.

I listen to sports radio in the morning on my way to work and on Monday one of the broadcasters was talking about the bad line play throughout the weekend.

He blamed it on the reduction of on the field practice time throughout fall camp. We all know the NCAA has reduced the amount of practice as well as the NFL so maybe he has a point.

I have not. We can win a title with this line but 08, 09, 11 and 12 maybe spoiled me.

Sorry, but that's just foolish. Jalen's completion percentage is very good, and about half of his rushing yards this year have come from him having to bail quickly on designed passing plays that he didn't have time to allow to develop. Saban has said publicly, Jalen has played well and our OL needs to improve. I agree with Nick. You probably should too, unless you know more about football than him. In which case, Nick should probably hire your arse.

I think the biggest problem has been Ross P. I dont like to pile on individual players but I had high expectations for him as a 3rd year starter in his 4th year with the program. He's our most experienced guy and his play hasnt indicated that.

The OL is getting beat up the middle. Granted, A gap blitz and double A gap blitz have become in vogue with defenses across football. But an experienced guard and center combo should be able to deal with it. Ross doesnt seem to have improved much from his RsFr season.

It should be technicians on the left side and maulers on the right side. At this point, i think the right side has outplayed the left. It shouldn't even be a debate at this point as we have our most talented and most experienced OL at LT and LG, while having a part time returning starter and a guy starting in his first two games on the right side.

I put that shite on Ross P. He needs to start kicking some arse. If not, let's see what the other guys can do.

We literally had 2 RB runs of under 3 yards the entire first half and one of them was on 4th and 1.

Our backs averaged 5.5 YPC.

And that doesn't include anything Jalen did.

Technically, the defenses we have played so far have not given up a single point to any of the other games they've played.

Stats.

In the first 3 quarters (before the subbing really took off) there were exactly 3 carries by RBs that gained less than 3 yards.

Get those facts outta here!! The line sucks and had innumerable runs of litttle to no yardage obviously.

I think our Oline is great, and has been every single year.
Where is this idea coming from?

O yea because we're one-dimensional on offense and our backup QB in limited time produced more exciting pass plays than our starter has in two games.
People are frustrated by our lack of a passing game
That and Daboll is a shite play caller

But yeah let's blame the oline that routinely mauls SEC defenses every single year to the point of being laughable
