don't think it's a coincidence Sayin to the portal came right after the Mack commitment. I've shared my thoughts on Mack. But I can tell you the CKD staff loves him, obviously. They convinced him to reclassify and signed him twice. I say that without there being any other meaning. The Alabama staff likes Austin Mack, and at the end of the day, I think that played into Sayin's decision to leave.

Probably easy to like a guy like Mack when you don’t have the clout as a program to be involved with top 25 players.

Kalen, you do now. You don’t take home the last call option at 10:00 pm

He needs to run the program his way, but this isn’t a situation where he’s stepping in for a guy that was fired. He’s stepping in for the GOAT. The program doesn’t need a rebuild (yet). When I read an implication that our top 3 recruit was chased off because you brought in your old third string QB, it’s starting to get a little alarming. Saban ran off some Shula guys, but he replaced them with better players.

I won’t write any judgments in stone until the games are played on the field…but he has to know how this looks optically, what it’s saying to others in the building, and that he isn’t buying any more grace with the fanbase with moves like this. Is choosing your 3 star over Nicks 5 star really the play?

Some of these guys were leaving regardless but this move sounds like a personnel decision and he took Mack at the expense of Sayin, which is hard to wrap my head around considering the old staff zeroed in on Sayin early and the industry at large agreed he was an elite prospect. Just don’t know about this one fellas.

IF Sayin was run off by a lowly three-star QB then that tells me a lot about the kid's competitive spirit.

Respectfully disagree. Many came to play for Nick, not Alabama. We were fine with that as long as he was coaching. With him gone you have to build a team that wants to play for CKD and Alabama. Holding on to kids to avoid looking bad is not the way to go about it.

Seems more likely in the light of this new day that Mack was brought in BECAUSE Sayin was leaving, not vice versa. At the very least he was strongly considering it. There's no way Mack commits last night and Sayin is in the portal at sunrise this morning otherwise.

Sayin leaving after another kid shows up says a lot more about Sayin than the staff

Maybe the timing is incorrect in how it has been reported. I feel like JS is missing a great opportunity.

There’s a difference between a 3 star transfer from Louisville and your new head coach bringing in a QB from his old school. Put yourself in Sayin’s shoes here.

I think 129/130 programs would probably take Sayin. Is our coach just smarter than everyone else? I hope so.

Modern players aren't committing to any school to olay just for the school. It's not a Bama problem, it's a college football problem.

Bryce Young and Will Anderson played in a bowl game and put their careers on the line.

Jaden Daniels opted out after he got his individual award. He didn't love LSU.

It tells me his parents are stupid and see there child isn't in a fair competition.

It also tells me our coach is not that bright and values feelings and relationships over ability, performance and results.

He is the anti-Saban

If you can't have both and you are absolutely positive that the 3* is going to be a monster because you've seen him light it up in practice for the last year, then yes.

It doesn't quite sound like it was an either/or situation though, which is a bit concerning to me.

Sayin is a terrible loss. Mack is a good replacement. I’m waaaaay sadder about Downs and Proctor

According to the services Mack is a 4 star on every service. Just want to point that out. I also doubt Sayin would have started over Penix and would have been a backup as well.

Also under Saban most everyone this past season felt that the 2nd best QB on the team is Lonergan but yet he was 4th string. Just saying

I disagree to a point, I mean he committed with Ty, Longeran and Milroe (who was in the heisman race) on roster.

I don't disagree but that leave Nick Saban out of the equation and there is no equivalency anywhere in college football.

Bryce Young and Will Anderson played in a bowl game and put their careers on the line.
They did so for Nick and UA increased their insurance to cover them if they got injured in that game.

So let me make sure I understand.

We were bleeding players at WR and DB and our idiot coach went and got another QB when the QB room was already too full. ??

shite, I'm old enough to remember losing Keenan Allen when he decommitted from Alabama in 2010.

And he went on to become a top-50 NFL WR of all time. Illogically, that somehow still pisses me off.

We've also won 5 national championships since he did that. Will we do that again? Probably not.

But things happen, especially in recruiting. They always have.

We'll be fine.

It does seem like we could use some players elsewhere for sure. Maybe no one is out there currently and Mack wants to play that badly for Deboer.

But i doubt the dominos are done falling and lets hope we can get some more guys int he portal soon if michigan opens up

All we had to do was pretend that Zach Maynard would compete for the starting QB job

Lowly 3 star? Which service are you looking at? He was top 75 overall according to 247 and On3 has him as a top 225 player according to the industry ranking.
