Locksley does nothing for me, but I almost expect it to be him. If not, I can't see why he was given Co-OC title to begin with. Having Co-OCs seems like a recipe for dysfunction.

It is imperative that a QB coach be hired. Jalen, Tua, and Mac are going to need someone to develop them.

Steve Sarkisian leaving Bama for Falcons amid disagreements with Nick Saban
quote:

... Multiple sources have confirmed to SB Nation that after meetings with Alabama head coach Nick Saban following the Championship, the relationship between Saban and Sarkisian deteriorated amid disagreements in “system philosophy,” per one source. Both parties planned to move on following Signing Day last Wednesday, and Saban was aware of Sarkisian’s contact with the Falcons.

One source described the problems between Sarkisian and Saban as “too similar” to the relationship between Saban and former coordinator Kiffin.

“There was an effort on Saban’s part not to repeat the same problem. This wasn’t going to work out,” a source close to Sarkisian told SB Nation...

... Falcons head coach Dan Quinn has a few obvious connections to Sarkisian (both were in Seattle a few years ago, Quinn as the Seahawks DC and Sark as Washington’s head coach, and both have worked as coordinators for Pete Carroll), and the Falcons front office is tight with Alabama head coach Nick Saban, for whatever that might be worth here. Saban and Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff both come from the Bill Belichick tree, and Saban’s advice was instrumental in convincing the Falcons to trade up for Julio Jones in 2011...

He was given the title for recruiting purposes and to keep schools from trying to poach him once the 10th on the field assistant goes into effect.

Again, as I said on the first page...

"Mediocre people don't like high achievers and high achievers don't like mediocre people"

I agree, but if Saban had issues with philosophy with Kiffin and Sark he sure as shite wouldn't get along with Kelly.

So other schools are beating down the doors to hire Locksley as OC? Because otherwise, what difference does it make if his title is WR coach or OC?

Didn't Chip Kelly's teams at Oregon always have great rushing numbers?

Kelly visited Bama the week between Washington and Clemson. Saban was quoted as saying (paraphrasing here) "nothing to read into. he and I are friends and he has other friends on our staff. he was in the area and stopped by".

No. But other schools (Florida for one) would certainly give Locksley a Co-OC title to go along with a coaching position just to snag him for his recruiting. We preempted that by giving him the title (and money) to keep other teams from stealing him.

Why would chip Kelly want to be an OC? He would be a better coach than everyone in the SEC not named Saban.

Same reason why Kiffin and Sarkisian came to Alabama.

As crazy as it may sound he probably needs to rebuild his image just like they did. He showed in the NFL that if given the keys to personnel decisions he could run a team into the ground.

Learning structure from the king would help market himself to future employers.

If the rumors about Saban telling Sark to go on because the relationship deteriorated are true, then at some point that's a Saban issue.

Isn't it a little too late to hire a head coach this year? Maybe he would be an OC for 1-2 years to get back into the college game. He's obviously not going to make it in the NFL so why not make a run at him.

It's probably going to end up being Locksley so none of this matters anyway...

But exactly what philosophy are we considering?
Just run or pass? QB development? Recruiting?
