What nonsense? Did he or did he not leave right after the portal closed?

Maybe I am confused and did not realize this has become tidefans. Some of you are very bipolar and seem to forget some of the very irrational post that end up here.

But enjoy

Yes the optics are bad. The silence is bad. There is no way the HC was not involved in the timing of his departure announcement. As the transfer portal clock struck zero. Coincidence. Sure.

As a fan that goes to an average of 10 games a year and donates when asked, I expect a lot from the head coach and that has been elevated due to Saban’s tenure. Immediately after securing the roster, he had better start winning over the fan base. He will quickly learn that the fans in this state are not like the fans in Washington or NAIA. Saban completely understood this. Something tells me he is not in it for long. Maybe two years. Maybe. So I wouldn’t get too attached to any coach these days.

Okay start the downvotes, name calling, ‘nonsense’, ‘troll’, ‘we don’t need fans like this’, and all other assumptions that somehow any coach, player or recruit ever reads these message boards. It’s called SECrant. Not SEC crimson rainbows.

Before the Alabama basketball vs. LSU game that's about to tip off, @tuscaloosanews asked Alabama AD Greg Byrne for comment on Ryan Grubb departing.

"We knew when we hired Coach DeBoer that there was a chance that Coach Grubb may end up being either the head coach at UW or was on the radar screen with the Seattle Seahawks," Byrne said. "Coach DeBoer had a plan for that and that is being worked on as we speak."

I don't know why people are freaking out. Grubb likely delayed his departure until after the Transfer Portal closed. Bad optics or not, I couldn't care less. It helps us and gives the players an opportunity to go through spring practice with the new OC before deciding on whether or not they want to stay when the portal re-opens after A-Day.

Opposing fans are just pissed because they won't be able to make fun of us if more players decide to leave.

Yeah, I’m confused.

It’s DeBoer’s offense - it really doesn’t matter who he has - or if he calls his own plays. THEY RUN HIS OFFENSE. His OC calls the plays based on weekly meetings and in-game changes based on the what the top dog - the HC - approves. Grubb didn’t make DeBoer, it was the other way around.

I mean there was many a defensive player who came to Bama due to Saban - regardless of the DC. As Coach changed offensive philosophy over the years, they came for that as well. Kirby didn’t make Saban, it was the other way around.

I thought this board was staying away from the BS from other boards and sites. This is utter nonsense.

People let their hate of Alabama cloud their judgement. All you have to do is look at the timing to realize Grubb was most likely the Seahawks second choice, with Kelly being their first. OSU is paying Kelly a good bit more than Seattle would have, so he picked there. I honestly think that if BC hadn't hired O'Brien, that Kelly would have been the OC in Seattle.

Fellas:
Let's all give this Grubb "story" a rest, both here and on tRANT. What's done, is done, and it only continues to cause uncertainty in both the public, and with our current players AND recruits.
Let's all take a deep breath, and let Coach & Co. work this out.

I imagine it's going to be Sheppard. He was the co-oc and passing game coordinator at Purdue when they had a great passing game, and he was the passing game coordinator at Washington under deboer. Sheridan has also been an oc at indiana, but they didn't go so hot, partly because penix was injured and they had no QB. Also Kirby Moore could be an option, but my guess is they will promote from within. Sheppard makes sense

Do those of y’all focusing on “optics” really believe that a first time NFL HC is making his OC hiring decision around a portal window timeline at only one college?

That’s not how hiring people works.

May Grubb's time at Seattle be short and disastrous and let his failure be a weight around Macdonald's neck.

You understand what optics means?

quote:

"Though the Seahawks had interest in Grubb from the start, one reason for waiting to make the hire official was to allow a 30-day window for Alabama players to enter the transfer portal to pass," Bob Condotta wrote in the Seattle Times.

Multiple outlets have said the same thing and not in a positive way. Again the optics not saying it went down that way.

Just saw that the Seahawks have hired a passing game coordinator to work alongside Grubb.

Interesting.

People keep bringing this up as if this doesn’t happen around coaching firings and hirings every year to avoid disrupting recruiting or leading to transfers.

Did I ever say any different. All I said was the optics of the situation look bad, especially considering everyone is watching what is going on at UA with Saban retired now. Why people cannot understand that.

I understand what it means. I’m trying to decide what kinda of “optics” I’m going with on this new BCM build.

Really no different than LSU letting go the entire defensive staff right after Signing Day… just the way it is

Recruits know that assistants come and go . Haven’t seen many recruits over the years that an assistant is a deal breaker . For all we know , recruits may have been told he was possibly leaving
