you jumping in front of a moving bus would be reassuring

There’s no reassuring “chicken littles”, it’s a business… in the professional world you plan and have an execution plan for as many possible scenarios as you can imagine. Sounds like the AD is doing just that, and DeBoer already has a shortlist of candidates and is on the phone. This is good business.

He's automatically the third best offense guy in that division after shanahan and Levay.

I may be in the minority here, but I have no issue with him going to Seattle. I mean it does suck, but you have to look at it through his eyes. I mean it is the NFL. Isn’t that everyone’s big goal? Now if left for another CFB lateral move, different story. As for the quote “ I am your new OC” or whatever was said, the only other thing he could have said is his name only and left it at that. But that would have raised questions for some people especially on here. Like I said, I have no issue for someone moving on to improve their life and career goals.

I am more curious about the OL coaching hire. I feel the new OC is already on staff.

I think they make Shephard a Co-OC but bring in someone else to be the run game coordinator.

I guess that is why my mind is going back to Kirby Moore the more I think about it. We definitely want Shepard coaching WRs...he's one of the best at it right now. Still no answer on OL coach...I just don't know that space well enough.

Won't happen, but bring AJ Milwee home.

Make him a co-oc

Nick Sheridan, the TE coach, has 7 years experience coaching QBs, so that's an option.

Kirby Moore is OC and QB coach at Missouri.

Bring this guy to Bama, plus Mizzou's OL coach, Brandon Jones: LINK

The optics are bad. It looks like they knew he was not going to stay here as the OC but wanted to make it look like as soon as the portal closed. Maybe the players knew it was a good chance he was not staying but if the players did not know and feel slighted come next portal open we will see players leave and deservingly so.

Some guys were going to leave even if Grubb stayed. At least now DeBoer has time to hire a new OC and convince whoever was on the fence that the hire is a solid one.

And the players actually get to be around him and the coaches long enough to know them before the next portal opens.

frick that. If the plan was to leave after the portal closed, then that is positive for us. He did us a solid. Respect.

Disappointed to lose the OL coach he is a good one. I thought finally we’ll have a solid coach at that position.

The portal for Alabama players after Saban's retirement closed on 9 February. According to reports, Seattle interviewed Chip Kelly on the National Signing Day, more precisely in the evening of 7 February: LINK

This either means that:
1. Seattle's hiring of Grubb was not a done deal yet, and there was no agreed 'scheme' between Alabama, the Seattle Seahawks, Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb to let the portal deadline close before announcing the hire; or
2. There was such an agreed and elaborate scheme between four parties, and Seattle agreed to set up an interview with Chip Kelly just to keep up appearances, and leaked that to the media in order to facilitate Alabama.

On a balance of probability, which option seems more likely: option 1 or 2?

I do not have compelling evidence for either option. I just find it odd that Seattle would schedule a fake interview with Kelly if they already had an agreement with Grubb at the time. But again, I don't know and I just want to move on to Kirby Moore and Mizzou's OL coach (if Huff leaves as well).

Either way the optics look bad but if it makes some on here feel better please downvote. Alot of sensitive fans in here nowadays.

I just hope the players knew that him staying at UA was not a guarantee. I know his daughter(child) wanted to stay in Seattle and heard rumors that his family would stay behind until the kid finished school. And not concerned about losing a coach that never coached a game or practice at UA just the timing looked bad.

Everyone needs to adjust to NIL and transfers. PFP and such.

I understand, but things have changed very quickly.
