If I remember correctly, the defense in 2004 led the nation. That time may have done something if Shula didn't have Croyle in the game up 52-0 in the 4th against WCU. I swear, that man never sat the starters.

Brodie was injured on Bama's first drive of the second half. Even Saban usually has the starters in on the first drive of the second half.

Grant vs Avery offense. Who wins?

That's like asking "who's better between Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny?" - neither exist.

Everyone complained about Shula's offense including me. Darby up the middle was tough to watch. Was it a talent difference only or do you think there is a certain characteristic to Shula's offense that just made it not work?

Are you shittin' me boy?

Put it this way. Go test drive a used 2009 Chevy HHR, then test drive a 2016 Corvette.

Thats the difference

I've always felt that if Croyle had stayed healthy, that 2004 team had potential to finish the season with a great record. Despite basically zero production at the QB position, we were in every game....including that AU game until they finally wore us down. We had a solid OL and a great defense. If we had adequate QB play then a number of those games would've turned out differently. Not saying we would've gone undefeated but that season *could* have been special if the ball bounced the right way.

We'll never know and thankfully it all worked out in the end for us.

I remember hearing from the Bama camp one spring that Capps was our best lineman in practice and that they were working him at LT. I wanted to hate him but I couldn't. I would have committed to Alabama as a shitty player too if I had the chance.

We should have been much worse in that era. How many teams had a 275 pound tackle that ran a 6.8 forty and couldn't bench more than his body weight.
