The biggest threat is Oregon (and Utah)

a 12-1 PAC12 champion Oregon will almost certainly leap frog us.

A 12-1 conference champion over an 11-1 non-conference champion, lots of people feel the conference title should put them over the top. Oregon's lone loss was to Auburn, a game they lead the entire time and arguably should have won.

The politics work heavily in Oregon's favor. The PAC12 has been extremely disgruntled about no playoff appearances and there is Bama fatigue out there.

Oregon is your main threat. Utah is a threat for many of the same reasons, but slightly less so than Oregon.

Oklahoma is also a threat but less so than the others, because the voters rightfully have very little respect for Oklahoma right now, given they lost badly to KSU (way worse than the score showed) and that they just needed to escape a loss to Iowa State at home.

The refs blew one call. Other than that we didn’t get screwed. We screwed ourselves.

Agree with this completely. There's no doubt the officiating hurt us badly, but to fixate on that is to ignore the mountain of self inflicted mistakes we made to ourselves.

Everything else being the same, we likely overcome the ref mistake and win yesterday if we had played clean otherwise.

Our corpse had 5 bullet holes, 1 was from the ref and 4 were self inflicted shots.

Some of you are forgetting the politics and dollars involved. I agree that Bama wins the eye test over most teams but they need fresh teams and more regions involved. The PAC 12 has been shut out for 2 years now. They need west coast eyeballs for TV. There is serious Bama fatigue out there and the SEC champ is all but guaranteed a slot. They don’t want two SEC teams if they can help it. Especially with another Deep South team in Clemson already there. A one loss PAC 12 champion is making it in. They need to have 2 Ls for Bama’s chances.

The West region doesn't bring a lot of viewers. They don't follow college football out West like they do in the south.

Birmingham is the biggest television market in college football.

There seems to be a consensus that if Clemson drops one game, they’re out. Why isn’t the same true for Oregon? The pac 12 is arguably worse, and they DID drop a game to Auburn.

If we beat Auburn’s arse, combined with the eye test, how do we not get in over Oregon?

Dream Scenario:

Clemson loses to South Carolina
Auburn beats Georgia
Oklahoma loses to Okie State
Baylor loses to Oklahoma twice
Oregon and Utah both lose

Alabama is probably ranked 3rd in that scenario, with the argument being if Clemson deserves to be at 4 over Oklahoma/Oregon/Minnesota/etc.

I don't think Clemson is getting left out with just 1 loss as long as they win the ACC, even with that schedule.

Clemson loses once and they are out.

You can't rip us for playing no one then reward them for playing no one, almost losing to North Carolina then losing to some other poor team.

Our fans need to understand we lost to the #1 team in the country by 5 points with our star QB just coming back from injury.

It isn't as bad as what it seems.

Oregon beat Washington and Washington ST by a combined 6 points. Utah is about to go up against a very much improved UCLA team. Idk these teams aren’t invincible. Crazy stuff can happen.
ETA: How the frick can you lose to Auburn or USC and be kept in over a team who lost to the best team in CFB by 5 because of a conference championship from a dog shite conference? Oregon would be below LSU in the West standings too because they lost to the 3rd best team in our division. Am I missing some logic here??

For us to even discuss a Clemson loss is really beyond hypothetical it's not even worth discussing. SC lost to a App state.

What would be funny is if everything goes the way we want it to until Championship Saturday, then Georgia just curb-stomps LSU in the SEC Championship.

Then we'd sneak in as a four seed, and LSU would be in an NY6 bowl.

Can you imagine the tigger tears over THAT?

UNC lost to App State as well and they were one play away from beating Clemson.

Clemson seems to be playing better now, but I don't think it's that far fetched, especially since SC has a win that's far and away better than anything UNC has done.

Eh, in that scenario, I think LSU and Georgia make it, so I think it would be best if LSU wins out. Plus, the melt of us beating them in a rematch would be delicious.

With LSU and UGA there's no telling how that will come out. UGA could be on point that game and if so I believe they'd beat LSU. Hell, there's no telling how LSU will look against Ole Miss, a game that I think will be high scoring.

Unless Georgia lost to Auburn in that scenario, it would be LSU and Georgia in if anything.

I don’t think our margin of victory really matters. We need multiple teams to lose down the stretch. That’s really what it comes down to.

Yeah, that's part of the prerequisite … Georgia would have two losses, including one to an Auburn team that we would have to beat convincingly.
